The Kragen Clan was an ancient clan of Dwemer who lived primarily in the city of Arkngthamz-Phng in Hammerfell, which they founded alongside the cities of Arkngthamz and Nchuand-Zel in Skyrim. They were known for being one of the pioneers of Aetherium extraction.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

First Era[edit | edit source]

The Kragen Clan were originally from Morrowind. In 1E 416, when King Dumac of the Dwemer and Hortator Indoril Nerevar of the Chimer founded the First Council, dissent had been growing within the Dwemer who opposed the alliance, among them the Rourken Clan. They left the province to build their own empire in modern-day Hammerfell. The Kragen Clan soon followed, settling in Skyrim. They built their stronghold in the Reach, which became the city-state of Arkngthamz.[2] They would also build Nchuand-Zel, which the city of Markarth was built around of.[source?]

Arkngthamz became the center of Aetherium manufacture. The Kragen Clan soon made alliances with four other cities: Bthar-zel, Mzulft, and Raldbthar, who collaborated with the Kragen Clan in the research, processing, and extraction of Aetherium within their borders. They eventually came to build the Aetherium Forge, crafting powerful artifacts with strong enchantments. However, this alliance soon fell apart as each of the cities attempted to lay claim on the Forge. As a result, the Kragen Clan left Skyrim and moved further west into the Dragon's Teeth Mountains where they built Arkngthamz-Phng, which would later be known as Fang Lair.[2]
