Kyrnil Long-Nose was Harbinger of the Companions during the late Second Era.[1]

The late Second Era was a dark period of time for the Companions due to a series of dishonorable Harbingers who laid claim to Jorrvaskr. Infuriated, Kyrnil invaded Jorrvaskr and killed the usurpers. This was viewed by many as returning honor through blood, in the old ways. He also began the tradition of trusted advisors called The Circle (named after Ysgramor's council of captains). This would serve as an example to the younger, newer Companions.[1]
