Lightning Storm is a Master Level Destruction spell. This Spell Tome can be purchased after completing the Destruction Ritual Spell given by Faralda. This spell produces a constant stream of lightning, with a very reasonable magicka to damage ratio, since it is less costly and seems more effective than the other master destruction spells in terms of DPS. This spell, presuming you are hidden, is good for taking down Dragons. It should be noted that as with all Master level Destruction spells, you must be stationary when launching this attack, however you can alter your aim.
The spell can reduce enemies(even dragons) to a pile of ash even if the player does not have the perk Disintegrate. Dragons reduced to ash piles are still lootable and will yield a soul.
The actual animation is a channeled spell that does a decent amount of damage. You can be interupted while channeling by power attacks, thrums and Thu'ums however.
Note
- This spell can get some pretty overpowered effects if combined with the Impact perk and Fortify Destruction enchantments, like making dragons, or even Alduin unable to attack at all (This isn't right, or it has been fix with recent patch. Impact need Dualcasting, and this spell is two-handed, Impact will not stagger any targets hit by this spell. And the Fortify Destruction is not really necessary because of the low magicka needed for casting per second (Confirmed on PC)) (The Impact perk also requires it to be a single-cast charged spell, not one like Flames, Sparks, etc.)
- You may want to think about using Become Ethereal shout before casting this spell and any other Master level Destruction spell because they need a large time to cast that will make you defenseless and unable to run. Combine the shout with Blessing of Talos and Amulet of Talos for fast cooldown time
