Lockpicking refers to the mini-game associated using lockpicks or other enchanted items to open locked doorways or containers. In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, it is affected by the Security skill. you must either use lock picks or the Skeletal Key, an item obtained after completing the Nocturnal quest. If you have either of these and you select a locked container than the "lock window" appears. This window shows a series of five tumblers and your lockpick or key. The objective of this is to click the tumblers into place by pushing the tumblers up using the lockpick. When the tumblers reach the top of the lock, push them in so they stick. If you mis-calculate your timing then your lockpick breaks and the tumblers fall back down. As you raise in skill, fewer tumblers fall back down if you break a lockpick. In Morrowind you just have a chance depending on what type of lockpick you have equipped. In both though, you can use enchantments or magic to disable them.
