"Don't be shy. Join us, and do well by doing good."
―Maglir[src]

Maglir is a Bosmer knight and member of the Fighters Guild. He can initially be found in the taproom at the West Weald Inn in Skingrad.

Background

Maglir has a bad habit of defaulting on contracts, and believes he is not paid enough to put his life in danger. He defaults two contracts during the Hero's time in the Fighter's Guild before finally defecting permanently to work with the Blackwood Company.

Interactions

Unfinished Business

Vilena Donton sends the Hero to Modryn Oreyn in Chorrol, who then tells them that a rather undependable Guildmate named Maglir has defaulted on a contract to recover a journal from a mine-infested with undead. They are to locate Maglir and find out why he has not returned to Chorrol.

After finding the Journal, The Hero will have to decide to either inform Modryn of Maglir defaulting, or to cover for him and tell Modryn that Maglir did complete the contract.

Den of Thieves

In Anvil, Azzan will send both the Hero and Maglir to deal with a group of bandits working out of Hrota Cave. While working together, Maglir will offer small bits of advice, but will be focused on the reward for the contract.

More Unfinished Business

After dealing with The Master's Son, Modryn will inform the Hero that Maglir has defaulted on another contract, and send them to Bravil to find out why and make sure the contract is dealt with. Maglir can be found in The Lonely Suitor Lodge. He will explain that he had left the Fighters Guild and joined up with Blackwood Company.

If the Hero covered for him the last time Maglir defaulted on a contract, he will repay the favor by telling them about Aryarie, the woman who hired the guild. Otherwise, Maglir will refuse to help out, calling the Hero a rat.

The Hist

Just before the Hero leaves the Blackwood Company Hall, they will encounter Maglir. He will be upset when he finds the Hall ruined and most of its leadership dead. He starts to rant about how he finally got a house and how the Hero "ruined everything." He will attack the Hero, and will give them no choice but to defend themselves.

In the Chorrol Fighters Guild:

"What is it... brother? They send you to find me?"

Maglir "I'm Maglir. What do you want?"
Defaulted "Defaulted? I suppose so. I'm not paid enough to do the job. I was supposed to find Brenus Astis' Journal."
Brenus Astis' Journal "That was my job. They said it was in Fallen Rock Cave. You ever been in there? Didn't think so. I'm not going back. Not for that kind of money. If you care that much, you go find it. The contract's yours. It's not worth it for what the Guild is paying. I've got a family to think about."

"Whatever."

After obtaining the journal:

"You're still around? I've told you why I defaulted on the contract. Not too much else to be said about it. Do what you must."

Brennus Astis' Journal "You found it, huh? Good work, I guess. Well, take it back to Oreyn, then. He can pay you on the contract. Tell him what you want about me."
I'll tell him you did the job. "Thanks. I'm not trying to shirk my duty, but it used to be two or three men would be on this. I like the Guild, but I've got a family to consider."
I'll need to report your failure. "I understand about duty. Don't get me wrong. Should've been more than one guy on this job, and I've got my family to think about. They come first."

"Whatever."

In the Anvil Fighters Guild:

"Oh, it's you. Looks like we're working together."

Contract "We've got one. Let's hope this one will pay well."
Thieves "Sounds like we need to ask around Anvil for any clues. Figures we'd get a mission without any real direction. I'll follow you."

"Payday! Let's roll!"

After learning about Newheim:

"Come on. Let's get this mission done and get paid."

Wait here. "Hey, if you say so. You do all the work."
Let's go. "Fine. Let's move."
Thieves "Let's find this fat Newheim guy. Whatever his name is. He apparently knows where these bandits are."

After talking to Newhiem:

Thieves "Sounds like we'll find the bandits in Hrota Cave."

Outside Hrota Cave:

Thieves "Let's get rid of these guys, so we can get paid."

After clearing the cave:

"We're done here. Let's go get paid."

Let's go. "Fine. Let's move."

"It's tavern time!"

In The Lonely Suitor Lodge:

"Oh, look. You again."
"You again. I imagine I know why you're here, guild rat."

Defaulted "Defaulted? That all you talk about? I'm Blackwood Company now. Plenty of work, the pay is good, and I don't have Oreyn on my back all the time."
The job needs to be completed. "Oh? I know you're the one who ratted me out to Oreyn about that other contract. Go back to Oreyn. Give him my regards. We're done talking."
The job needs to be completed. (If Maglir was said to have done the job during "Unfinished Business") "Look, I know that you covered for me before, so I'll give you this one. Talk to Aryarie at the Mages Guild for the job. After this, we're done."
"You're wasting your time."
Your are without honor. "That means a lot, coming from you. You think I didn't hear about you ratting me out to Oreyn? Now get out of here before my friend and I get angry."
Your are without honor. (If Maglir was said to have done the job during "Unfinished Business") "Honor, huh? I prefer feeding my family. I figure I owe you one for covering for me, so I'll let you leave. Get moving, before I forget myself."

(If approached again)
"Got nothing else to say to you. Get out of here before I get angry."

"You! You've ruined everything! Why? WHY? I had a job! I had a home! You've taken it all! I'll kill you for this!"

Trivia

  • It is curious that Maglir says that he needs the money for his family, as when the Hero completes "Den of Thieves" with him, he says: "It's tavern time!"
