- ―Martius Silius[src]
In 4E 170 or 4E 171, Martius Silius was a Legion Captain. He and his men were ambushed by goblins in the proximity of the town of Blackridge. Being injured, hungry, and thirsty, Martius requested aid from the town in order to get his men to recover. The previous harvest of Blackridge had been poor, and as a result, the town elder of Blackridge refused to provide the Legionnaires with the needed supplies. Martius asked once more, and was met with the same answer. In response, Martius slew the town elder, and ordered his men to kill the remaining civilian population.[1] Martius later stated that he had to think of his men first, and that he would do the same thing in 4E 180 as he did back then.[2]
For the incident, Martius and his men had to be judged by a military tribunal.[3] A trial was held, with the judges being close to making a verdict when the Great War broke out, as a result of which the trial was ignored, and the verdict never came.[1]
During the War, Martius Silius continued to serve as a captain in the Legions. He and the men under him were seperated from their Legion, and found themselves deep in the territory controlled by the Aldmeri Dominion. Due to being cut off from the rest of the Legion forces, Martius and his men raided military camps of the Dominion in the winter, as well as supply caravans for the Dominion forces. Weeks later, only being a dozen left in total, they managed to re-join the Legion forces just in time to participate in the Battle of the Red Ring. While they were low in numbers, they helped retake the Imperial City, with Silius himself being decorated by Emperor Titus Mede II before being honorably discharged from the Legion.[4]
After his retirement from the Legion, Martius Silius became the Grand Champion, with the rest of his team consisting of Metundus, Volusianus, and Campanus Tetius. By 4E 180, Martius had been Grand Champion for a total of eight times.[5] He and his team would agree to participate in the grand Invitational Tournament organized by Noura of Rivercrest.[6]
During the tournament, members of his team were slowly being killed off, the first being Volusianus,[7] followed up by Metundus being assassinated in the infirmary after an arena match with Dalan Silver-Skin.[8] The murderer would turn out to be Boregis, the sole survivor of the incident at Blackridge, who had been killing the Legion veterans due to them having escaped their judgement from the military tribunal.[1]
Rather than have the story of Blackridge spill out into the public, Martius and the Fugitive agreed to settle the matter in the Imperial Arena. If Martius would win, the trial would be forgotten, and if the Fugitive won, justice would be served. Martius would eventually be slain by the Fugitive in the final battle of the Invitational Tournament.[9]

"Oh, it's you. I wondered when we'd finally meet. The new rising star of the Arena... I've seen you fight, you know. Not just against Tetius, either. You have obvious talent. Too bad you keep wasting time putting your nose where it doesn't belong. So, what did you end up finding in Blackridge? A murderer, I hope?"
