New Allegiances is a quest in The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard.

Background[]

"I've found a new candidate, ripe for Harkon's Gift. I'm sending you to welcome this soul into our family."
―Vingalmo[src]

Walkthrough[]

The quest is given to the Dragonborn by asking Vingalmo if he needs any help. He then informs the Dragonborn that there is a person who is deserving of the gift of vampirism. He instructs the Dragonborn to head to the person's city and use the Vampire's Seduction power on them. After the power is used, the Dragonborn can feed on the target. After feeding, report back to Vingalmo for the reward.

Possible targets[]

After feeding from the target, they will mention they are not feeling right and must go lie down. When revisited at a later date they will exclaim "I never knew the darkness held such colors, or the night air smelled so sweet. You have given me a great gift." In addition, they will allow the Dragonborn to use their coffin whenever they feel the need.

Journal[]

New Allegiances – DLC1RV07
ID Journal Entry
10 Vingalmo has sent me to <radiant city> where I am to find <radiant character> and bestow the Gift of Blood upon him/her. I should first render him/her pliant through the use of Vampire's Seduction then embrace and bite him/her on the neck. If I currently lack the power, I should forego feeding for a day as I will gain the ability. I should then return to Vingalmo while <radiant character> undergoes the change.

  • Infecting Haran counts as aiding the people in Winterhold to become its Thane.
  • The Dragonborn can ask other vampires if there is work to do and they will direct them to Vingalmo or Feran Sadri.

  • You may be given this mission even if the target is already dead due to various reasons, such as killing or completing a quest involving the NPC's death.
  •  PC   360   PS3   Sometimes you are given the same target a second time while doing miscellaneous quests for the vampires at Castle Volkihar. This makes the quest unable to be completed because the target is already a vampire.
    • Solution: Get around this by killing the target and getting "Quest Failed." Their heads may continue to move and they may yet speak to you of vampiric things, but leave the area and return a few days later, they will have vanished like any other corpse. After doing so, return to the castle for the next quest.
    • Solution: Save before handing in last quest, hand in and see what mission you got, reload and repeat till you get a new target. Save before handing in last, new quest is chosen when you do so.
    •  PC   Use the console command setstage DLC1RV07 100. This skips the turning of the new initiate part of the quest to the "Return to Vingalmo" section fixing the bug and allows the Dragonborn to not murder the character to continue.
  • Feeding on target may cause the player to become immobilized as if they were still talking to them after biting.
  • Cairine may scream, alerting the guards, causing all nearby Markarth guards to run in and attack with no option to pay off the bounty.
  • After finishing the quest, the target may still be counted as living and may not even appear to look like a vampire.
