Pets are animals that can live in the Dragonborn's house in The Elder Scrolls V: Hearthfire if adopted children ask to keep one.

Adopted children can randomly bring home pets once they have moved into one of the Dragonborn's homes. Through dialogue, the ability to either accept or decline pet adoption exists. Once an animal becomes a pet, they will stay inside the home and follow the child around. If the child leaves the building, they will stay in the child's bedroom until they return. Each child can find one pet and each household can have one dog, additionally, for a total of three animals in the house, if the Dragonborn has two children. If a pet is killed, the children will be angry at the Dragonborn and tell them to leave them alone. Waiting a few days to return home seems to make them return to normal.

  •  PS3   Both pets may follow one child, with one pet ignoring the child that brought it home.
