- For other uses, see Poisons.
Poisons are alchemy items in The Elder Scrolls Online that can be applied to weapons to cause detremental effects to their target. Poisons applied to weapons proc (programmed random occurrence) periodically, meaning that there is a 20% chance for a poison to be used each time a Heavy Attack, Light Attack or Weapon Ability is used; not all attacks will have a poison applied to them. Poisons have a 10 second cooldown between each proc. Poisons can be crafted at an alchemy station with reagents and poisonous solvents, purchased from merchants, looted from containers, Crown Crates and defeated characters and creatures, purchased from the Crown Store, or obtained as daily rewards.
A weapon can only be equipped with one poison at a time, and an equipped poison will disable any enchantment the weapon has. With the exception of Crown Store poisons, all poisons are leveled from level 1 to 160 and are designated I to IX according to what solvent is used to make it. A character cannot equip a poison to a weapon if the level of the poison exceeds the character's own level. Higher level poisons deal more damage, last longer, and are more expensive. A character will only ever loot general poisons that are appropriate to their level, but higher-level poisons can be purchased, traded or transferred to lower-level characters. Like potions, up to 200 of the same poison takes up a single inventory slot.
Generic poisons[]
Generic poisons can be found as loot from containers and creatures or bought from merchants. Cloudy Damage Health Poisons deal a high amount of Poison Damage over a short period of time, while Cloudy Gradual Health Poisons deal a low amount of Poison Damage over a long period of time. Cloudy Hindering Poisons do not deal any damage, but reduces the target's Movement Speed by 50% for the duration.
Crown Store poisons[]
Crown Store poisons can be purchased from the Crown Store or found in Crown Crates. They are also given for free as daily rewards. Each Crown Store poison only has one level and can be used by any character regardless of level, making them particularly effective for low-level characters. Crown Store poisons cannot be sold to merchants and, because they are bound, cannot be traded between players. They can, however, be stored in a bank and moved between characters belonging to the same account. Crown Store poisons obtained from Crown Crates can be converted into Crown Gems.

Crafted poisons[]

Poisons can be crafted the same way as potions at an alchemy station. At least two reagents and a poisonous solvent must be used to create a poison. With Laboratory Use, three reagents can be used. Two of the reagents must share a trait to produce a poison, otherwise the poison will be inert, consuming the materials. The solvent that is used defines the level of the poison, and each level requires the appropriate Solvent Proficiency rank (the first is unlocked for all characters). The maximum level for crafted poisons is 150. The appearance of the poison depends on its level and effects, similar to generic poisons. Unlike potions, poisons are create in batches of four at a time, i.e. one solvent and two reagents will create four poisons instead of one. Each rank of Chemistry adds an addition four poisons made per batch up to a maximum of 12.
The following are solvents are used to make poisons:
- Grease (I) – Level 3
- Ichor (II) – Level 10
- Slime (III) – Level 20
- Gall (IV) – Level 30
- Terebinthine (V) – Level 40
- Pitch-Bile (VI) – 10
- Tarblack (VII) – 50
- Night-Oil (VIII) – 100
- Alkahest (IX) – 150
