Red Mountain Region is an ashy and blighted mountainous region in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Description

It is the region at the center of Vvardenfell that is enclosed within the Ghostfence, and is composed of the arid and desolate slopes of the legendary Red Mountain, also known as Dagoth Ur.[1] The mountain is continuously spewing "cursed" ash storms, making the whole region very inhospitable. All creatures are infected by the blight disease and are hostile. There are Dwemer Ruins, and many ancestral tombs.

History

Ancient texts relate the mythological origins of the mountain thus, the god Lorkhan was destroyed by the Aedra who, then cast his torn heart down to Tamriel, hoping it would never be found. After crashing to the ground, the heart created a large mountain, known as the Red Mountain.[2]

In 3E 389, the mountain was visited by the Eternal Champion.[3]

In 3E 427, the Nerevarine journeyed through the region to defeat Dagoth Ur. There, they also found the Heart of Lorkhan, and in the outcome of the battle, the heart was destroyed along with Dagoth Ur.[4]
