Rent and Taxes is a House Hlaalu quest available to the Nerevarine, if they joined House Hlaalu, in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  1. Speak with Odral Helvi.
  2. Head to either the Ascadian Isles or Vivec City.
  3. Return to Helvi.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Once the Nerevarine has given a real copy of the deeds to a piece of land in the Ascadian Isles to Odral Helvi, he will give the Nerevarine a follow-up quest. Two farmers in the Ascadian Isles region, Manat Varnan-Adda and Llovyn Andus, owe some rent payments (to the tune of 50 Gold) to Helvi. The Nerevarine must therefore collect the owed money, or kill the farmers.

Rent Collector[edit | edit source]

As with the majority of Helvi's quests, the Nerevarine faces a choice: work in favour of Helvi, or take the path that will better benefit House Hlaalu. If the Nerevarine has chosen to collect the rent from the farmers, they will find that neither of the farmers can pay the 50 Gold they owe. The Nerevarine may kill the farmers (Helvi's own suggestion) or take, from Andus, his guar Corky. If the Nerevarine decides to take Corky, they must sell it to Drulene Falen to get the money owed. With the money taken from the farmers corpses, or from the sale of Corky, the Nerevarine must return to Helvi to complete the quest.

Protecting the Farmers[edit | edit source]

Alternatively, if the Nerevarine feels that such a small amount of money (100 Gold between the two farmers) is not as valuable as the lives of the farmers, then they may speak to either Crassius Curio or Rovone Arvel. Curio, if spoken to, will give the Nerevarine 500 Gold to settle the debt (he will also take an even greater interest in Helvi's actions), while Arvel will provide the Nerevarine with 100 Gold to pay the debt.

After this, the Nerevarine must return to Helvi to complete the quest.

Rent and Taxes – HH_RentCollector
ID Journal Entry
10 Odral Helvi asked me to collect 50 gold in rent and taxes from Manat Varnan-Adda and Llovyn Andus. If they refuse to pay the rent, I should kill them. I can get to Manat's farm by going west out of Suran and following the path across the isthmus, and keep to the left. Llovyn's farm is further on the road west, just past the Dren plantation.

65 Rovone Arvel gave me 100 gold and told me to pay the rent and taxes myself.
70 Crassius Curio told me that the farmers probably do not have 50 gold. He asked me to pay the rent and taxes myself.
100 Odral Helvi thanked me for collecting the rent from the farmers.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Nerevarine may skip the quest by giving Helvi 100 Gold from their own pocket.
    • If the Nerevarine removes all money from the person, prior to giving the money to Helvi, they will not loose any money at all.
  • The Nerevarine can speak to either Curio or Arvel and sell Corky for extra money.
    • They may then, also, kill the farmers for Helvi's disposition boost.
