Detailed walkthrough[edit | edit source]
A woman's voice is heard: "They have taken you from the imperial city's prison, first by carriage, now by boat, to the east, to Morrowind. Fear not, for I am watchful. You have been chosen." Inside a boat, a Dunmer named Jiub is speaking to the Nerevarine as they wake, "Wake up, we're here. Why are you shaking? Are you ok? Wake up." A guard, approaches and guides the prisoner. They are asked to choose race, sex and physical aspect. Inside the Census and Excise Office, Socucius Ergalla asks about the prisoner birthsign, major and minor skills. After, these are defined, Socucius orders the Nerevarine to go find Sellus Gravius in the next building. The Nerevarine can now leave.
- Optional: If the Nerevarine searches the other rooms, before leaving, they will find a dagger on a table, a lockpick, inside the baskets and sacks, some alchemy ingredients and can be found. Exit the building into a courtyard, before going into the next building search the barrel for an Engraved Ring of Healing that belongs to Fargoth. Head into the next building and speak to the captain for orders.
Sellus Gravius[edit | edit source]
The Nerevarine must speak with Sellus Gravius, in the building on the other side of the courtyard. Sellus will grant the release papers. Sellus will also order the delivery of a sealed package to Caius Cosades in Balmora. Indicating that, although Caius has a house in Balmora, they can find information on Caius' whereabouts at the cornerclub. Sellus will then give a note called Directions to Caius Cosades. The Nerevarine leaves for Balmora.
Balmora[edit | edit source]
- Optional: Inquiries inside the South Wall cornerclub, reveal that Caius is a Skooma addict and that if Bacola Closcius is asked where Caius lives, he will give directions to Caius' house in Balmora.
The Nerevarine will go to Caius' house to deliver the package.
Caius will then advise the Nerevarine to join a guild or a faction and to do freelance work in order to create the cover of an adventurer, so they do not draw suspicion. He will mention the Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, Imperial Cult, and Imperial Legion.
- Note: Even if joining the factions as soon as possible is recommended, this can be entirely skipped and one can ask Caius about "Orders" immediately, this will start the next quest, "Antabolis Informant."

Journal[edit | edit source]
|Report to Caius Cosades|
|1||My orders are to go to the town of Balmora in Vvardenfell District and report to a man named Caius Cosades. To find out where he lives, I should ask in Balmora at the cornerclub called South Wall. When I find Caius Cosades, I must give him a package of documents, and wait for further orders.
|2||Elone at Arrille's Tradehouse gave me detailed directions to Balmora.|
|5||A patron of the South Wall cornerclub called Caius Cosades "an old sugar tooth," and says to ask the owner, Bacola Closcius, about Caius Cosades.|
|10||Bacola Closcius says Caius Cosades rents a little bed-and-basket up the hill from the South Wall. Go right up the stairs from the front door, then left at the top of the stairs and down to the end of the street.|
|11||I reported to Caius Cosades, but I haven't given him the package of documents yet.|
|12||I gave Caius Cosades the package of documents. Caius Cosades says the Emperor wants me inducted into the Blades, the Imperial Intelligence service, with the rank of Novice. Caius Cosades would be my Spymaster, and I would follow his orders. Should I do as the Emperor commands? I'm not sure... I want to think about it.|
|14||I have given Caius Cosades the package of documents. And, by the Emperor's command, Caius Cosades has inducted me into the Blades, the Imperial Intelligence service, with the rank of Novice. Caius Cosades will be my Spymaster, and I'll follow his orders.
|18||Spymaster Caius Cosades gave me 200 gold to spend as I please. And he also told me to establish a cover identity as a freelance adventurer. He suggested I join the Fighters Guild, or Mages Guild, or Imperial cult, advance in the ranks, gain skill and experience, or go out on my own, get freelance work. Then, when I'm ready, I come back to Caius for orders.
|20||Spymaster Caius Cosades told me to establish a cover identity as a freelance adventurer. He suggested I might find some work at the Fighters Guild and the Mages Guild. When I'm ready, I'm to come back to him, and he'll have orders for me.
|22||Spymaster Caius Cosades suggested I maintain a cover identity as a freelance adventurer, just to avoid drawing unwanted attention. And he says he has orders for me, whenever I'm ready.
|1||When I asked him to tell me about Morrowind's story, Caius Cosades gave me the book entitled "A Short History of Morrowind". According to him, I should also get another book, "On Morrowind, the Imperial Province", by Erramanwe Solandie.|
|1||Caius says that Ed Theman, also known as "Eddie the Snitch" or "Eddie the Rat", is a former Telvanni mage who rallied to the Mages Guild and the Empire cause. It is apparently a colorful character but unreliable. However, he has a lot of information about the Great House Telvanni. He owns a small house in Balmora.|
|1||The rules of the Blades can't be simpler: I must obey orders and I am forbidden to attack or steal my companions. If I break these rules even once, they will expel me and I will have no way to re-integrate the order.|
|1||Caius says that Elone, a scout who is under his authority within the Blades, is usually at the Arrile Tradehouse in Seyda Neen, the port where I first stepped on the isle of Vvardenfell.|
|1||Elone offered me a copy of the "Guide to Vvardenfell" so that I could learn about Vvardenfell and his people.|
|1||Caius says that Gildan the Nightblade, who is under his authority in the Blades, lives in Ald'ruhn. Headquarters of the Redoran Council, this city is located north of Balmora, beyond Caldera. Gildan lives in the southeastern part of town, just to the right of the temple square.|
|1||Gildan advises me to go see Wayn at the Balmora Fighters Guild. He sells paralyzing swords and spider swords. He says they are not honorable weapons and most blacksmiths refuse to sell them.|
|1||Caius says that in order to arrive at Nine-Toes the hunter, a member of the Blades obeying the Spymaster, I must leave the latter, then turn right. At the bottom of the stairs, I have to turn left and go south. The door of the Nine Toes' House will then be on my left.|
|1||Nine-Toes gave me moon sugar. He says that most alchemists and apothecaries refuse to buy, but the Khajiits tend to accept. He told me about Ajira, the Balmora Mages Guild, and Ra'Virr, a Balmora merchant.|
|1||Caius says that Sjorvar Horse-Mouth, a master-at-arms who is dependent on his authority within the Blades, lives in a guar-keeper's hut in the middle of nowhere, west of Caldera. Caius could not be more precise.|
|1||Sjorvar Horse-Mouth advises me to buy an enchanted weapon or scrolls for my explorations. Ghosts can only be wounded by spells or enchanted weapons. He advised me to go see Galbedir from the Caldera Mages Guild. She can also enchant objects but, apparently, her rates are quite high.|
|1||Caius says that Surane Leoriane the magician, who is under her authority in the Blades, lives in Caldera, the nearest town to the North. His stone and wood house is located between the north gate and the governor's palace.|
|1||Surane Leoriane advises me to go to Llaros Uvayn at the governor's palace in Caldera and learn the spell of Enchantment Detection. This makes it possible to detect enchanted objects, whether in the hands of enemies or hidden.|
|1||Caius says that Rithlyn, a warrior dependent on his authority within the Blades, lives in two houses above his own, heading south.|
|1||Rithlyn offered me a cuirass and a helmet for me to sell to finance my training.|
|1||Caius says that one of the members of the Blades, a healer named Tyermaillin, lives in two houses below his own.|
|1||Tyermaillin offered me his old alembic.|
