Not to be confused with Rescue.
"The Companions have been asked for assistance, and we shall answer. Particularly when the pay is as good as this."

Rescue Mission is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is a radiant quest that may be taken after completing the first quest in the main Companions questline. It can be repeatedly completed, if the Dragonborn asks the leaders of the Companions for work.

Background[]

A victim has been kidnapped and taken to a lair. I need to get them back to their home.

Objective[]

  1. Rescue the victim from the lair
  2. Talk to the victim
  3. Escort the victim back to their home
  4. Take your leave of the victim
  5. Return to the quest giver

Walkthrough[]

As for a radiant quest, the person to rescue and the location from where are random. Below is a list of possible variations:

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the other radiant quests from the Companions, once this quest is offered, it cannot be declined; the Dragonborn must finish it in order to get other quests from the Companions.
  • If Dragonborn is installed, then there is a small chance that either the kidnapped character's location may take place on Solstheim, or their destination may be on Solstheim. If the kidnapped character lives on Solstheim, then they might be called citizens of Skyrim by Vilkas and Skjor, even though Solstheim technically belongs to the Province of Morrowind.

Bugs[]

This section contains bugs related to Rescue Mission. Before adding a bug to this list, consider the following:

  1. Please reload an old save to confirm if the bug is still happening.
  2. If the bug is still occurring, please post the bug report with the appropriate system template  360  /  XB1  ,  PS3  /  PS4  ,  PC  /  MAC  ,  NX  /  PS5  ,  XS  , depending on which platform(s) the bug has been encountered on.
  3. Be descriptive when listing the bug and fixes, but avoid having conversations in the description and/or using first-person anecdotes: such discussions belong on the appropriate forum board.

  • The quest can become stuck and continuously loop objective 22 if the NPC partially or completely exits the cell they are found in.
    • Killing the NPC will fail the quest and can be started again, as it is a radiant quest.
    •  PC (Fix)   Use the console commands player.moveto "refID", where the refID is that of the NPC (without quotations), followed by setstage cr08 25 to advance the quest.
  • If the victim NPS is Eltrys and the quest "The Forsworn Conspiracy" has been completed, Eltrys will have been killed and will not be present at the provided location. This is also applicable for any NPC who was previously killed.
    •  PC (Fix)   Use the console command completequest cr08 or setstage cr08 25
  • If the victim NPC is Fruki, her cage may already be open but she will only reach a certain part of the cave and not be able to exit.
    • Reload a save before entering the cave.
  • The victim NPC may not move after being reached.
    • Proceed to the victim's home and the quest will update.
  • Feeding on Belthor as a vampire may cause this quest to start and Belthor will say "Thanks for rescuing me". There is no way to complete the quest.
  •  360   When entering Shimmermist Cave, the victim NPC may not be captive but rather walking around in the first open room past the bridge and water, usually with a Chaurus. The NPC will be unable to be talked to. Clearing out the cave will update the journal to "Talk to <Alias=Victim>", but any attempt to do so results in the NPC merely repeating their default scripting.
    •  360 (Fix)   Open the victim NPC's inventory by pickpocketing them, then exiting their inventory. This will update the quest and the victim NPC will act as normal.
  • When trying to rescue some NPCs, the location will not be shown by the marker. After clearing the cave the quest will advance to objective 20. However, the NPC will not be inside the cave.
    •  PC (Fix)   Use the console command completequest cr08 or setstage cr08 25.
    • Upon entering Whiterun to the immediate right is a small area with a barrel on the west wall. Climb this barrel and jump over the wall to the north outside of the cell. From here some glitched NPCs can be accessible by walking towards their marker. Complete the needed objective of talking to them then fast travel to where they need to go after this. It may be necessary to enter and then exit a building in the area for the quest to update.
  • If the victim NPC is spoken to before all enemies in the dungeon have been killed, they may follow but the quest will not update upon arrival to their home.
    • Kill all enemies in the dungeon before proceeding to talk to the victim NPC.
