Silence is a spell and effect that temporarily prevents the victim from casting spells. It is a member of the Illusion school of magic, governed by the Personality attribute. It does not have a magnitude, and is always fully effective if successfully cast.
Silence does not prevent the victim from using magical items, such as scrolls, potions, or enchanted items. Therefore Silence can quickly be removed with any of the above items that has a Dispel effect. Although a legitimate threat to spellcasters, the Paralyze effect may be preferable for use by the Nerevarine because it consumes the same amount of Magicka and also prevents the victim from fleeing, attacking with a melee weapon, or using any items other than ingredients or potions.
