"In some of Skyrim's darkest recesses, where the living fear to tread, the bones of the dead still walk. These Skeletons feel no pain or remorse... and deserve no mercy."

Skeletons are reanimated human bones turned hostile that lurk in the dungeons and tombs of Skyrim.

Compared with other games

The Skeletons of Skyrim differ from their Oblivion counterparts in that they, like the Draugr, have glowing blue eyes instead of the empty sockets seen in Oblivion. There is also only one version of skeleton in Skyrim, whil Oblivon had many different versions of skeleton that were much stronger than the regular skeleton.

Strategy

Skeletons lack speed and agility due to their lack of muscles, and will swing their weapons in exaggerated arcs, making them easier to evade. Archer skeletons are slightly more troublesome as they have ranged attacks, though their arrows are not very powerful. Skeletons don't wear any armor, though some carry iron shields. When killed, skeletons will immediately fall to pieces.

Skeletons resist damage done by bladed weapons, but blunt weaponry such as maces work effectively against them. Magic also works well against skeletons, especially fire spells: using a duel-wielded flame spell can be enough to take down several of them at once. Turn Undead is useful for crowd control if they start to overwhelm the player.

But despite their fragile nature, skeletons are often found in groups of three or more, or assisted by more powerful monsters such as Draugr or Necromancers, who often summon skeletons to assist them in battle, thus charging in without caution is unwise.

Skeletons typically carry Ancient Nord bows, axes, and swords. Occasionally, Bone Meal and a small amount of coins can be found on them as well.

Skeletons are also very easy to notice. Aside from their glowing eyes and movement, they make noises that sound as if their bones are constantly scratching against each other.

Skeletons are immune to the Windshears' Paralyzation perk.
