Slaughterfish are aggressive aquatic creatures in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Locations

Slaughterfish can be found in rivers, oceans, and occasionally ponds. Here are some places where players have encountered Slaugherfish.

Changes in Skyrim

Unlike previous Elder Scrolls games where they appeared, Slaughterfish are much less common and now lay Slaughterfish Eggs, which can be harvested from egg nests in the water. Slaughterfish now have the ability to leap on to water banks and still effectively attack the player, unlike in Oblivion where they flop around and become an easy target. When dead, their corpses float.

Fighting Tips

Since the player cannot unsheathe their weapons, or cast magic, underwater, it is not recommended to try to fight a Slaughterfish in its natural habitat. However, a Slaughterfish can easily be killed while underwater by a player wearing the Ebony Mail, due to the Mail's damage effect. Using a Cloak Spell, such as Flame Cloak, is also effective against the fish, as long as you cast it before you enter the water, as you cannot cast it underwater. Another method is to simply use the shout "Aura Whisper" and throw a spell like Firebolt or Ice Spike on the now glowing slaughterfish.
