The Spider Control Rod is an item which appear in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Acquisition
- It may be encountered during the Thieves Guild quest Hard Answers, obtained by theft from Calcelmo's Laboratory, located within the Dwemer Museum in Markarth. This item is only there the first time you do this quest. At the top of the stairs in the first room on your left, you will find the Spider Control Rod sitting on top of a table.
Usage
The Spider Control Rod shoots a beam of energy which Aicantar's Spider will walk towards. As the spider cannot be interacted with aside from the use of the Spider Control Rod, it does not seem possible for the spider to move outside of the laboratory area.

Aicantar's Spider
Aicantar's Spider is a Dwemer spider, originally from Mzinchaleft which has been modified by the wizard Aicantar so that it will obey commands from the person using the Spider Control Rod.
The spider seems to make a connection to the person using the Spider Control Rod, as he will attack anyone who shows hostility towards them.
As detailed in Aicantar's lab journal, the spider (like most Dwemer machinery) will not function when taken out of the ancient Dwemer ruins turned museum and laboratory used by Aicantar and Calcelmo.
