The Stalhrim Source is a landmark on Solstheim abundant with Stalhrim. It is initially unmarked on the world map; however, it can become listed as a landmark once the quest "A New Source of Stalhrim" has been completed.

Overview[]

The site is an ancient burial ground containing ten sarcophagi packed with Stalhrim. There are 10 deposits that can be mined with an Ancient Nordic Pickaxe to yield three pieces each, resulting in 30 total pieces. Two of the deposits are mostly covered in snow on the opposite side of the stairs but can still be mined.

Each deposit contained one Draugr corpse, which can be looted for various items including small amounts of gold or a piece of armor or low-level weapon.

If the quest "No Stone Unturned" has been completed, each Draugr will have up to five gems, usually of flawless quality. Note that one of the sarcophagi is half buried in snow and only the Draugr head is visible, but it can still be looted.

The deposits will replenish after ten days. If the location is visited before the ten days are up, the counter will reset and start over again.

There is a chance that a dragon will be circling the Stalhrim Source.

Quests[]

A New Source of Stalhrim[]

Baldor Iron-Shaper will reveal the location of the source as a reward for rescuing him from the Thalmor.

Trivia[]

  • The ore of Stalhrim can be mined from the veins easier with help of the Elemental Fury shout. If the Dragonborn uses this shout and "attacks" the veins the ore is harvested faster. The pickaxe must not be enchanted or it will not work, another way to do this fast is to get dual wielding perks and hold a dagger in the off hand while harvesting ore with the pickaxe.

    •  PC (Fix)   360 (Fix)   PS3 (Fix)   XB1 (Fix)   PS4 (Fix)   Swinging at the deposits with an Ancient Nordic Pickaxe may fix this.
    •  360 (fix)   PS4 (Fix)   Traveling to anywhere on Solstheim, then reloading the last made save will fix this. This may allow the Dragonborn to directly mine the deposits.
