Tamrielic, sometimes referred to as the Common Tongue,[1][2] is the standard language spoken throughout The Elder Scrolls. It is the basic lingua franca of the empire and its citizens, but is most widely spoken by humans.[3] The ancestor to modern Tamrielic is Cyrodilic, which would replace High Elven in all legal documents circa 1E 2813.[4]
Trivia[]
- "Speak Tamrielic, you lackwit brute! TAMRIELIC! Not that animal gibberish -- "
- ―The Apprentice[src]
- In game, Tamrielic is represented by the native language used for whatever version the game is played on (for example, originally English).
- Morokei considers Tamrielic to be a "guttural" language.[5]
- Ironically, the word "Tamriel" itself is not Tamrielic, but Aldmeri.[6]
