Thane of Hjaalmarch is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In this quest, the Dragonborn can gain the title of Thane of Hjaalmarch.

- Assist three citizens of Hjaalmarch
- Return to the Jarl
Walkthrough[]
To become the Thane of Hjaalmarch, the Dragonborn must begin the quest "Laid to Rest" by investigating the burned down house, as well as completing the subsequent quests. The Jarl (Idgrod Ravencrone by default, or Sorli the Builder if the Dragonborn has sided with the Stormcloaks during the Civil War) will then offer the title of Thane as long as the Dragonborn undertakes miscellaneous quests to help three different people.

The title also includes being awarded the Blade of Hjaalmarch.
Similar to Falkreath, if this is attempted late in the game, it may be difficult to find three citizens alive to help, especially if the The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard add-on is installed.

- If the only reason for becoming Thane is to purchase the land, it is not necessary to finish helping with the three tasks before being allowed to purchase the land. Upon finding and speaking to Aslfur, he may have a dialogue option for buying a house, at which point he will say that while there are no houses available, he can sell some land.HF
