The Affairs of Hagravens

After completing a few missions in Markarth, the Jarl will ask the player to find Hrolfdir`s shield and return it to him. The map is then updated, revealing a new location that could well be Blind Cliff Cave (please remember that the radiant story system might direct you to other locations such as Hag`s End, Bleakwind Bluff or even Lost Valley Redoubt). Your approach should bear in mind an existing conflict between two non-human characters that inhabit this morbid and insidious place. Melka and Petra are two warring hargravens and the player can gain a significant advantage by simply allowing them to "settle their differences".

When you enter Blind Cliff Bastion, Melka can be found in a cage (no picklocking needed) begging to be released. It would appear Blind Cliff Bastion was her home until Petra attacked, which ultimately resulted in Melka`s imprisonment and loss of "property". Should the player decide to release her, clearing this small area becomes incredibly easy, given that Petra and her minions are no match for Melka. When the two hargravens engage in batlle, feel free to assist her and ensure the desired outcome. She does not attack you at any point and expresses her gratitude once Petra is vanquished, offering the Eye of Melka as a reward.

Now that the bastion has been returned to its rightful owner, the player can choose to simply retrieve the shield or kill an unsuspecting Melka with a few strikes (power attacks preferably as they will normally stagger opponents). Loot her body and, if it hasn`t been awarded to you yet, make sure you retrieve the Eye of Melka, a powerful staff that shoots fireballs and is simple to recharge since it can be replenished with fewer gems than what is usually required for this type of item. Hrolfdir`s shield can be found in one of Petra`s chests. Return to the Jarl to complete the quest and receive your reward.
