Quests[edit | edit source]

The Arcanaeum is involved in a number of quests in The College of Winterholds main questline and the possibly the main questline of The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard

Hitting the Books[edit | edit source]

After completing Under Saarthal the Dragonborn will start the quest Hitting the Books wherein they must go to the Arcanaeum and ask Urag Gro-Shub for books containing information about the object discovered under saarthal, the Dragonborn will then be sent to retrieve three such stolen books and return them to Urag Gro-Shub in the Arcanaeum.

Shalidor's Insights[edit | edit source]

When in the Arcanaeum if you enter dialogue with Urag Gro-Shub and ask him if he needs help locating any rare books, he will then ask you to retrieve Shalidor's Insights, this will begin the quest Shalidor's Insights. After obtaining the book the Dragonborn will return to the Arcanaeum and give the book to Urag Gro-Shub for a reward.

Elder Knowledge[edit | edit source]

In the quest elder knowledge the Dragonborn will be sent to the College of Winterhold to ask for information relating to elder scrolls. Once the entry test is past the Dragonborn will go to the Arcaneum where they will speak with Urag Gro-Shub and be given to books, Effects of the Elder Scrolls, and Ruminations on the Elder Scrolls.

Ancient Falmer Tomes[edit | edit source]

Four tomes written in the Falmer language can be found and brought to Urag Gro-Shub in the Arcanaeum, after which the Dragonborn will receive translated versions of these texts.

Fetch Me That Book![edit | edit source]

This is a series of quests given to the Dragonborn by Urag Gro-Shub in the Arcanaeum in which they will need to collect a copy of a certain book and bring it to Urag for a reward.

Scroll Scouting[edit | edit source]

If the Dragonborn has sold the elder scroll to Urag Gro-Shub they will have to purchase it back for 4000 septims or they can pass a persuasion check and purchase it for 3000 septims, but if they are the archmage passing the persuasion check will cause the price to lower to 2000 septims.

History[edit | edit source]

The Arcanaeum contains documents that reportedly date back to the late second era according to dialogue with Savos Aren[2], and College itself if inferred to be even older than that.
