Along the way, General Tullius will be seen giving a speech. If General Tullius still has not appeared, return to Legate Rikke and attack her until she falls. *After killing all the Stormcloaks in the fort, the Imperials can be killed too, but unlike the other forts, the Imperials will respawn. This is a prime area to collect black souls or to train combat skills since the Imperials will never stop respawning until the area is left. This is also nice because all the Imperials spawn in large groups and are extremely easy to kill. Also if the fort is entered, the combat will stop save a few soldiers that follow in. When the inside of the fort is exited, the Imperials won't fight until provoked but will still continue to respawn allowing for a stop in combat at any time.

*PS3 ( Legendary Edition with Season Unending completed after giving up Markarth and taking Winterhold and the Rift; the conjurers located in Fort Amol should have already been cleared several (at least 3) in game days before). The bug of no imperials at the quest arrow and no stormcloaks in the fort has been resolved by following this sequence: after completing Fort Sungard, save just outside of the castle boundaries. Fast Travel to a location near Fort Amol and walk to Fort Amol (no Fast Travel). Confim that the fort does have walking Stomcloaks and approach them such that they warn you to stay away. Do not attack or kill any Stormcloaks until the actual battle. Go to the Imperial Camp at Eastmarch (SE of Mzulft) and receive payment from Legate Rikke who will be there. Sell and store as many supplies/items you can so your inventory is as small as possible. Again walk to Fort Amol as before (no Fast Travel) and confirm that there are Stormcloaks walking in the fort and interact with them again. Make a different, new save before entering Castle Dour at Solitude. Receive your instructions from General Tullius to go to the Imperial Camp at Eastmarch but do not actually go there yet. Instead, Fast Travel to a location near Fort Amol again and walk to Fort Amol (no Fast Travel) and confirm that there are Stormcloaks walking around Fort Amol as before. Additionally, if possible, sneak into the Fort and enter the prison, interact with the Stormcloaks in there and empty the 1 (or 2) chests infront of the alchemy lab/armor improvement table in the courtyard. If you cannot, interact with the Stormcloaks in the Fort such that they warn you to stay away again. Travel to the Imperial Camp at Eastmarch and make another new save before talking with Legate Rikke. If the 'Reporting for Duty' option is not available, wait 1 or 2 hours and try again, alternatively, you can travel away and Fast Travel back. Start the the 'Battle for Fort Amol' Quest. Leave the quest in inactive status so that there is no white quest marker to travel to. Do NOT Fast Travel to Fort Amol or the surrounding area but walk/run there as directly as possible. As you approach Fort Amol, the Stormcloaks will recognize you (they should still be there) and commence shooting arrows. Run around the Fot, maintaining distance such that you do not draw them out. Take the road to the left of the Fort as you walk around. You should see the imperial party waiting for you. Before approaching them, unactivate all other quets and activate the Battle of Fort Amol quest. Approach the quest marker/imperial soldier and enjoy. The actual issue(s) causing the bug are unclear but Fast Travel to Fort Amol (and other Forts in the quest line) appears to be a part of the problem.

*So many people may spawn at one time inside of the fort during the battle, the whole game will lag out.

Walkthrough

The Dragonborn talks to Legate Rikke in the Eastmarch Imperial Camp to receive their next objective. She will tell them that the Legion wants to retake the rest of Eastmarch, and that the Dragonborn should go to Fort Amol and assist the soldiers there. They then travel to the fort, which is located southwest of Windhelm and east of Hillgrund's Tomb. Once they meet with the Imperial soldiers there, their next objective is to attack the fort. There are barricades blocking the entrance of the fort, which must be destroyed with a weapon in order to gain access to the courtyard. The Dragonborn and the Imperials will need to kill as many Stormcloak soldiers as possible. Once the fort's resistance has reached 0%, the quest will be completed.

Bugs

This section contains bugs related to The Battle for Fort Amol. Before adding a bug to this list, consider the following:

  1. Please reload an old save to confirm if the bug is still happening.
  2. If the bug is still occurring, please post the bug report with the appropriate system template  360  /  XB1  ,  PS3  /  PS4  ,  PC  /  MAC  ,  NX  /  PS5  ,  XS  , depending on which platform(s) the bug has been encountered on.
  3. Be descriptive when listing the bug and fixes, but avoid having conversations in the description and/or using first-person anecdotes: such discussions belong on the appropriate forum board.
  • When given the task, Imperial soldiers will not appear near the fort, making it impossible to join them. The fort is empty, also making it impossible to take it. This can be fixed on the PC by using the console command setstage CWFortSiegeFort 10 as it spawns the Stormcloaks and Imperials. It should be noted that the Stormcloaks will be hostile towards the Dragonborn if the command is used in the fort itself.
  •  PC   360   PS3   When speaking to Legate Rikke, the "Reporting for duty" option may not appear. Reboot the game or reload an earlier save file to fix this. Alternatively, go to Fort Amol and kill the guards; the "Reporting for duty" option should be available.
    • On the PC, it is also possible to re-fast travel to the camp, or just leave to somewhere else and then come back. On the Xbox 360, using the cooking pot in the camp may also fix the issue.
  • When in battle, it is possible for the rebels to group up in one large area on the wall making it very difficult to attack them directly but the Imperials do not attack. Instead, they run into a wall. Dragon shouting them and attacking is a workable strategy.
  •  360   Upon finishing "The Battle for Fort Amol" the quest marker indicates to return to Legate Rikke. However, she may not give any dialogue options, thus preventing the progression in the quest line. To fix this, head to the Windhelm Stables and walk towards Windhelm. Along the way, General Tullius will be seen giving a speech. If General Tullius still has not appeared, return to Legate Rikke and attack her until she falls. Once she is defeated, the quest line will continue and Tullius should be at Windhelm. Once he is killed, the quest line will advance.
  • After killing all the Stormcloaks in the fort, the Imperials can be killed as well. However, unlike the other forts, the Imperials will respawn. This is a prime area to collect black souls or to train combat skills, since the Imperials will never stop respawning until the area is left. After exiting the inside of the fort, the Imperials will not fight until provoked, but will still continue to respawn, allowing for a stop in combat at any time.
  • Due to the large number of people spawned here, the game might start to drop frame rate, based on the system used.
