The Collector is a quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Background[]

Lord Umbacano of the Umbacano Manor in the Talos Plaza District is a collector of rare Ayleid antiquities.

As soon as the Hero exits the Imperial Prison Sewers from the beginning of the game, there will be an Ayleid ruin named Vilverin directly ahead. An Ancient Ayleid Statue can be found if one explores deep enough into the ruin or another one listed below.

Walkthrough[]

After finding one Ayleid statue, seek out Lord Umbacano. He will ask the Hero to find the other nine to complete his collection. The Hero can sell a statue to a shopkeeper; if this is done, this will cause Lord Umbacano to send his butler to see the shopkeeper. He walks from the Talos Plaza District, so it will take that amount of time for him to show up. Selling in the Market District is therefore quickest.

Upon finding a second statue, Umbacano will give the Hero the map references for five more sites, leaving them with 3–5 other sites to find by themselves (depending on whether the locations he lists have already been visited). He will then give the quest "Nothing You Can Possess," where the Hero must go to High Fane to collect a carving. Completing this will lead on to "Secrets of the Ayleids."

The Hero will receive double the item's price if they give it to Umbacano (500 Gold a statue) and will receive a bonus of 5,000 Gold for completing the set. This makes it an easy way to get 10,000 Gold.

Locations[]

The Ayleid statues are found in the following Ayleid Ruins:

Journal[]

Journal Entry
  • Update: Upon speaking to Umbacano:

I've spoken to a collector of Ayleid artifacts named Umbacano. He has offered to pay me handsomely for any Ayleid Ancestor statues that I bring him.

  • Update: After giving Umbacano the first statue:

Umbacano has offered me to pay well for any more statues I find. I should look for more of them in Ayleid ruins, and bring them to him. If I can find all ten of the statues, he will pay me a large bonus..

  • Update: After giving Umbacano the second statue:

Umbacano's research has uncovered evidence that some of the Ayleid statues he is locking for may be hidden in these ruins: Moranda, Mackamentain, Wenyandawik, Ninendava, Fanacas.

  • Update: After giving Umbacano the statues:

I've brought Umbacano a third-tenth statue.

  • Update: After giving Umbacano all ten statues:

Umbacano has rewarded me with 5000 Gold for finding all ten Ancient Ayleid Statues.

Trivia[]

  • If one wants more Gold, the statues can be stolen back and sold to a fence. However, this means one must join the Thieves Guild first.
  • This quest can be rendered incompletable. If one finishes the quests "Nothing You Can Possess" and "Secrets of the Ayleids" prior to turning in all of the Ayleid statues, the Hero will no longer have a "collector" to sell the statues to (see "Secrets of the Ayleids" for further details). Having free rein to Lord Umbacano's estate might well be a fair trade-off (referencing the keys one can loot from his corpse).
