The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is a 2017 version of the 2011 game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the fifth installment of The Elder Scrolls series, adapted for the virtual reality devices. It was released for PSVR on November 17, 2017 and PC on April 3, 2018.[source?]

Upgrades[]

Although Skyrim VR is the same game as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, there are some differences due to its VR nature.

On startup[]

  • Upon first bootup, you go through a cavern for a one-time quick introduction to the new mechanics in VR.
  • The main screen is no longer white text on black, but standing at an altar in the cavern.
  • You are given the option between walking places as in the regular game, or "teleporting", which some find eases the VR motion sickness associated with moving around.
  • During the opening carriage ride, you can freely look in any direction.
  • At the Helgen opening, you do not climb off the cart or walk over to the executioner's block - the screen goes black for a moment and you are teleported to the next spot.
  • When your head is on the block, the game "stands" you in the ground rather than tilting your perspective, which would cause motion issues in VR.

Gameplay[]

  • It is much easier to look around as you explore, giving you a fresh perspective even in places you've been many times.
  • Your hands are no longer static in front of you, but are fully independent, floating hands. When you cast flames, for example, you can point your flames in completely different directions.
  • Swinging your weapon is as easy as swinging your arm, and the same goes for blocking with a shield.
  • Using a two-handed weapon will put the weapon in your chosen main hand, looking like a one-handed weapon - however you will not be able to equip any weapons or spells in your off-hand.
