This page is for the nomination of Good articles. This is not a way to showcase the articles of your favorite characters, creatures, or the like. For a list of Good articles, see Category:TESWiki Good Articles.

A Good article is an article which is a candidate for becoming a Featured Article but has not yet become one. Prior to the Consensus Thread decision on October 20th, 2018, The Circle reviewed and voted on all nominations. Since then, the old system has been put back in place, allowing for regular users to vote as well after a discussion, if needed.

An article must…

  1. …contain all appropriate infoboxes, navigation templates, and categories.
  2. …be well-written and detailed.
  3. …be unbiased, with a neutral point of view.
  4. …be sourced with all available sources and appearances.
  5. …follow the Manual of Style, Layout Guide, and all other policies on TESWiki.
  6. …following the review process, be stable, i.e. it does not change significantly from day to day and is not the subject of ongoing edit wars. This does not apply to vandalism and protection or semi-protection as a result of vandalism.
  7. …not be tagged with any sort of improvement tags (i.e. more sources, expand, etc).
  8. …have a proper lead that gives a good summary of the topic and can be used for the front page featured box.
  9. …No redlinks.
  10. …have significant information from all sources and appearances, especially a biography for character articles.
  11. …not have been previously featured on the Main Page. Otherwise, it can only be restored to featured status.
  12. …be completely referenced for all available material and sources. See TES:Sourcing for more information.
  13. …have all quotes and images sourced.
  14. …provide at least one quote on the article. A leading quote at the beginning of the article will be required only if there is quotable dialogue by or about the subject. Although quotes may be placed in the body of the article, a maximum of one quote is allowed at the beginning of each section.
  15. …include a "Personality" section on all character articles.
  16. …character articles should include all relevant dialogue.
  17. …include a "powers and abilities" section on all relevant character articles, especially for God characters where said powers and/or abilities are stipulated.
  18. …include a reasonable number of images of sufficient quality to illustrate the article, if said images are available.
  19. …contain at least one link to the article subject in another language.
  20. …contain a lead and must be, counting the introduction, at least 1000 words long (not including captions, quotes, headers, etc.)
  21. Text and images in the article must not violate any current policy of the wiki or any policy that was in place at the time of the good article nomination. If policy changes, the article must be re-reviewed to ensure it matches the Good Article criteria.

How to nominate:

  1. First, nominate an article you find is worthy of good status, putting it at the bottom of the list below. Nominated articles must meet all seventeen requirements stated above.
  2. Add {{GAnom}} at the top of the article you are nominating.
  3. Others will object to the nomination if they disagree that the article is good enough; they will then supply reasons for doing so, and ways to improve the article (errors, style, organization, images, notability, sources).
  4. Supporters adjust the article until the objectors (with reasonable objections) are satisfied.
  5. Be sure to place sign in the "Nominated by" line when the nomination is posted for voting.

Below is an example:

Miraak

  • Nominated by: Flugsmith
  • Comments: An article which I feel supplies all the relevant information that the article needs in a conformed, accurate and neat way. Impressive in content and layout. Flugsmith (talk) 21:39, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

Support

  • Voting-support.svg Support – I find that this article is of good quality and is suitable to gain the good article status. There are only some minor issues, which can easily be fixed. ☞ Rim < Talk | Updates | Edits > 03:49, January 9th, 2014 (UTC)

Neutral

  • Voting-neutral.svg Neutral – While the article is well-written, this is weighed out by the improvement that can be had. Example (talk) 21:39, January 10, 2014 (UTC)

Oppose

  • Voting-oppose.svg Oppose – I believe that this page is great but, i believe that there is a little problem with this page. The number of dupps. links in the page is pretty amazing. There's lot of them. Also, you may want to add:the gadget of show dupps links. I think it would help you.Emperor Jarjarkine Aldmeri Dominion.png Senate Hall 02:35, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Blood on the Ice

  • Nominated by: Ottoman Hold (Talk)
  • Comments: This quest page has been in progress since Skyrim came out. As one of the most infamous quests in the game, the community truly came together and added to it (myself included ;) ). I have gone over the requirements and I feel that Blood on the Ice is a good article, and I remember a few other people saying so unofficially in Slack as well. So...what do you all think? Comments

  • Voting-comment.svg Comment – There has been discrepancy in the past about people who added to articles nominating "their work," although I disagree with the sentiment. I think that if we were to impose an arbitrary rule, then most of the GAs in the past would not have made it, and we would barely nominated any more today. In any case, I was not the sole editor of the article (far from it, in fact) so the point is moot anyway. Ottoman Hold Message Me My Action 05:06:33 December 05, 2020
  • Voting-comment.svg Comment – If we're going by TES:GAN, then this article does not meet the criteria.
  • For one, the lead doesn't adequately summarize the article. According to TES:LEAD, "At least one sentence in the lead should be dedicated to each article header". While this is probably a guideline and not a rule that's written in stone, the current single-sentence lead isn't what I expect to see in a Good Article.
  • The quest is indeed quite infamous, and the reason for this should probably be covered better in the article and mentioned in the lead; namely the numerous bugs and other flaws and jankiness that can mess with the "intended experience" and even make it uncompleteable. IMO this should be more widely covered or referred to in various relevant locations in the article body rather than being completely confined to the Trivia and Bugs sections. Encouraging the player to create a hard save prior to starting this quest would probably be a good idea.
  • One issue/inconsistency currently not mentioned in the article is that when Wuunferth is accused of Necromancy, he defends himself by stating that he is a member of the College of Winterhold and that the College hasn't allowed Necromancy for hundreds of years. However, this is at odds with Phinis Gestor, a conjurer at the College, stating that Necromancy has never been banned by the College (only the Mages Guild had such a ban in place, back when they still existed). This can lead knowledgeable players to conclude that Wuunferth is guilty and is lying about College policy in order to direct suspicion away from himself. Since the player character has no dialogue option to contest Wuunferth's claim, we have no way of knowing if he's intentionally lying or if this is a mistake by the writers. It's a Bethesda's Bug.

  • Voting-support.svg Support – For a quest that has more than one way of doing it, the page is clearly laid out, has all the necessary details, and having the dialogue there is quite helpful. Poisoned apples (talk) 21:45, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
