Excessive signatures

Can we please add something to this policy about excessively long signatures? I have seen some talkpages littered with really long signatures that contain lines upon lines of CSS and this makes them hard to edit. If possible, a rule should be introduced so that signatures should not break into more than 2 lines in source mode. Thank you. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 19:45, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

EDIT: I would like to point out that nothing on this page remotely resembles a policy, more a help page document. This whole article needs to be revised in a proper policy page or removed. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 19:46, June 23, 2014 (UTC)
Here's a policy: Emperor Jarjarkine Aldmeri Dominion.png Senate Hall
Yes, I agree as there has been a few, including Emperor above me who has now changed his signature, that have been ridiculous. It hasn't been any problem before until last year, so it hasn't been thought of (I think). I saw when I looked at a few other wikias that some do have a policy that only allows this {{SUBST:Signature|USERNAME}} as described in the article. —EbonySkyrim Message! 21:24, June 23, 2014 (UTC)
Signatures are not supposed to be in the main template namespace, that is meant for public templates, such as infoboxes and warning templates. For personal content, they belong in your userspace (eg User:SuperSajuuk/Signature is where my signature is located). Considering very few wiki's allow signatures to be created in the template mainspace, it's better to create a standard so that you don't end up breaking a local wiki policy by having it in the mainspace. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 21:27, June 23, 2014 (UTC)
i Do agree with you guy. But please, taie a look to the page i linked. Spey, mabue this could be an exemple of policy we may inspire of.Emperor Jarjarkine Aldmeri Dominion.png Senate Hall 22:31, June 23, 2014 (UTC)
I already looked at the policy and it seems to be very similar to the one used on Narutopedia. If the sysops here want to employ that policy, I wouldn't be opposed. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 09:37, June 24, 2014 (UTC)
If it is as you say that few wiki's allow a signature using a template, how come I haven't seen this after looking at at least 10 wikia. Either they describe how to make your signature like you have done, the easy way or have both with the advanced version too. But nowhere have I seen it says its forbidden. And most look similar to the page we have here. —EbonySkyrim Message! 20:32, June 24, 2014 (UTC)
General wiki etiquette is that "personal" templates belong in a user's userspace. The template namespace is meant for public templates like userboxes, infoboxes and so on that are used repeatedly. The easiest and most universal method is to add "personal" stuff as subpages of your userpage (since, in MediaWiki, doing {{User:SuperSajuuk/sig}} is the same as calling a template) --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 20:47, June 24, 2014 (UTC)
I agree that signatures should not be a too much of a distraction and should be created for their intended purpose. The Wookieepedia signature policy is a good example, as posted above. I don't see any problem, however, with allowing users to use templates to create their custom signatures. This method was already in place when I came here. Even though the signatures are of personal nature, they are being used repeatedly on a number of talk pages, and allowing users to continue to use this method is in no way causing harm to the wiki, as far as I know. As for it being part of wiki etiquette. I could not find any such information while searching for general wiki etiquette on personal templates. If you could please point me to that page, I would like to read it. —TombRaiser SPEAK! 17:43, June 25, 2014 (UTC)
If you noticed what I wrote, you can achieve the same "template" effect without placing the signatures in the "Template" namespace. My signature is custom and is not in the Template namespace, and I know plenty of wiki's don't allow signatures to go into the Template namespace. The safest, and recommended method, for signatures is to place them as a subpage such as /Sig or /sig1 or /Signature of your own userpage: that way, there isn't a problem if you go to another wiki and they have a rule stating that they don't permit your signature in the Template namespace. The "Template" namespace is generally meant for public things: a signature is not a public thing and is of a personal nature. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 17:54, June 25, 2014 (UTC)
I think as long as the sig is not too obtrusive, then its ok. I have no problem is we adopted another wikia's policy on the matter. Jimeee (talk) 17:14, June 26, 2014 (UTC)
Aye then. So in short, what changed  spey ? in summarie?Emperor Jarjarkine Aldmeri Dominion.png Senate Hall 01:25, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
So if there's general support for the change in policy, does a sysop want to write up some new policies and make an announcement? --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 18:46, June 29, 2014 (UTC)
