Walkthrough

Vision

"You have done well. I had thought you lost to me. The third piece of the Staff is yours. Rumors have been whispered about in the Empire. I think Tharn senses that the pieces come together. You must take care to not be discovered by him-your death would be most unpleasant. I have divined the location of the fourth piece of the Staff. It lies in the Halls of Colossus, a structure built to honor a race of Giants, though none have been seen in the land for ages. It is said that the Halls of Colossus sat perched on a cliff overlooking the Great Divide, which is along the southern edge of Tamriel. Perhaps the Halls are near that coastline. I only wish I could offer you more. Fare thee well my friend, and find this place, for the sake of our loved ones..."

After obtaining the Third Piece of the Staff of Chaos from Elden Grove, Ria Silmane will again contact the Eternal Champion during their sleep to congratulate their success and inform the location of the Fourth Piece of the Staff of Chaos, an ancient structure known as Halls of Colossus. While this rumors have been spreading in the Empire about the actions of the Eternal Champion.

Corinth

Asking citizens about the Halls of Colossus will eventually direct the Eternal Champion to the Mages Guild in the city of Corinth, in the province of Elsweyr. Upon entering the Guild and talking to the the Mage, he will present himself as Loremaster Turamane ap'Kolthis. Already knowing of Eternal Champion's search for Halls of Colossus, he will make a proposal: a group of warrior-priests led by Sir Galandir from the Temple of Agamanus recently attacked the guild and stole a sacred Tablet which can decipher a part of the Elder Scrolls. In exchange for recovering the Tablet from the Temple, the Loremaster will give the location of the Halls of Colossus to the Eternal Champion.

Temple of Agamanus

Sacred Tablet
Temple of Agamanus First Level
Temple of Agamanus Second Level
Temple of Agamanus Third Level - Light green marker represents Tablet

The Temple of Agamanus will be marked on the map after the deal is accepted, it is located south of Corinth. Three levels compose the Temple, and while not having complex corridors, these three areas are inhabited by Ghosts, Skeletons, Wraiths, Spiders and Hell Hounds.

Upon entering the Fortress, some Knights will attack. The door to the Second Level is located on the extreme southwest of the room, Spiders and Hell Hounds guard the passage. It is possible to use the map (on the right) to locate hidden doors and use a faster way to reach the door.

In the Second Level the door to the Third Level is located north of the room. The way is long, however the spell Passwall can be greatly useful in this area. Without a map, the Second Level can be confusing and much more dangerous, the map (on the right) shows the correct way to reach the door.

The Third Level is the most dangerous and complex from the three areas and the Eternal Champion will need to swim in two occasions to reach the Tablet, with the exception of again using Passwall to break the way to the artifact. In this level more dangerous enemies will be guarding the way - Skeletons and Wraiths. The area where the Tablet remains cannot be reached using Passwall, for its walls are unbreakable. The confrontation with Wraiths is unavoidable in order to obtain the Tablet.

Once the Tablet is taken, make the way back to Corinth and give it back to Turamane. Fulfilling its part of the deal, the Loremaster will inscribe the location of the Halls of Colossus on the map - south of Elsweyr, in the coastline.

Before traveling to the Halls of Colossus, some observations must be taken:

  • The Halls of Colossus is the fifth main quest of The Elder Scrolls: Arena, from this point stronger enemies will start to appear and dungeons will become much harder.
  • Some effects will be of great assistance. Above all, Restore Health, Invisibility or Resist Shock. These effects are available in the Mages Guild, non-magic users can buy potions.
  • Magic users can buy the spell Passwall to skip doors and make the quest much shorter.

Halls of Colossus

The Halls of Colossus is a great maze inhabited by Zombies, Lizard Men, Rats and Ghouls. The First Level is composed by tens of complex corridors where creatures roam. There are six doors leading to the Second Level, however, to reach the Third Level it is necessary to obtain seven keys which are scattered around the First Level: Gold Key, Iron Key, Sapphire Key, Ruby Key, two Amethyst Keys and the Diamond Key.

However, it is possible to skip this part of the quest by using the spell Passwall to bypass the six doors of the Second Level or using the artifact Skeleton Key to open the doors.

The main objective is to encounter and take the seven keys needed to open the doors to the Third Level. One key is immediately to the left of the entrance (north of the map) behind a hidden door. Another key on a room in the front of the main entrance. On the center of the ruins a key remains close to a lake, surrounded by unbreakable walls. Southeast of the map, a key remains surrounded by more unbreakable walls guarded by Zombies. On the southwest of the map, a solitary key is stored on a little room which can be accessed easily by swimming. Two keys are located on the northwest, one guarded in a little room and another behind an abyss. It is necessary to use the Second Level's doors to explore the ruins without using Passwall (the map on the right is extremely useful for orientation).

The Second Level is full of Rats, however at this points these creatures should not represent danger. Once all the keys were obtained, it is possible to open the six doors of the Second Level and reach the last area.

The Third Level is small, however it is also the most dangerous. Upon entering, a locked door will request the remaining key. The next door will give a riddle to be solved:

Riddle

"I am the architect of this hell,
whose name is forgot in the dust of time.
Yet, where there is no dust,
where the river would speak
there is my name.
-
Halls of Colossus First Level - White markers represent keys
Halls of Colossus Second Level
Halls of Colossus Third Level - Yellow marker represents Staff Piece
"Find this place and then return,
to tell me my name.
Only then shall you pass this door.
-
"What is my name?"

A tribute to the architect is found on the southeast area of the First Level, protected by unbreakable walls and only reachable by water. His name is "Theodorus".

The next door will also provide a riddle:

Riddle

"Asnwer me this, and prove thy wit
for a true challenge is rare indeed.
-
"I am twice as old as three times the age of
the Sphinx of Gazia, Agamamnus
divided by one-ninth the age of
the Sphinx of Canus, Igon,
who left this world twenty-six years ago.
-
"What then is my age?"

The answer is "108".

In this point, the effects Insibility and Resist Shock can be applied.

The last room where the Fourth Piece of the Staff of Chaos remains is dark and inhabited by terrifying, demoniac creatures known as Homonculus. These flying demons guard the Fourth Piece and use a strong ranged shock spell. At this point, Homonculus are an annihilative opponent who deal massive damage.

Once the Fourth Piece of the Staff of Chaos is conquered, the Eternal Champion can get out of the wretched ruins.

Ambush

"It is obvious, whoever you are, that you are a cunning and worthy foe. It seems that Ria chose well, even if it was her last act. I will not insult your intelligence with further digression. My minions soon approach, but I will not consign you to the dark door of Death. You have proven your worth. Once you are killed, I will raise you to fight for me, as one servants. Give in to me now and I offer you everlasting life..."

Once again, Jagar Tharn will eventually send his servants to kill the Eternal Champion and recover the Staff's pieces.
