"Every now and again, we like to remind the shopkeepers that we're in charge. If that means breaking into their strongboxes and stealing something valuable from them, then so be it."

The Heist Job is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in which the Dragonborn is tasked with retrieving certain valuable items from the homes of citizens around Skyrim.

Background[edit | edit source]

I've been told to retrieve an item from a business in a city. I need to complete this job without killing any of the location's residents or getting caught and spending time in jail.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  1. Retrieve the item from the business in the city
  2. Return the item to Vex

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

These quests are quests given to the Dragonborn by Vex in The Ragged Flagon as extra work for the Thieves Guild. The purpose of a heist job is to steal a certain item from various places around Skyrim. These are side quests and do not play a role in successful completion of the main Thieves Guild line of quests. They can, however, play a part in building the Guild, unlocking city influence quests, and becoming Guildmaster of the Thieves Guild.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

This section contains bugs related to The Heist Job. Before adding a bug to this list, consider the following:

  1. Please reload an old save to confirm if the bug is still happening.
  2. If the bug is still occurring, please post the bug report with the appropriate system template  360  / XB1  ,  PS3  / PS4  ,  PC  / MAC  ,  NX  , depending on which platform(s) the bug has been encountered on.
  3. Be descriptive when listing the bug and fixes, but avoid having conversations in the description and/or using first-person anecdotes: such discussions belong on the appropriate forum board.
  •  360   If "The White Phial" has been completed before stealing the emerald from the strongbox, the thief may not be rewarded.
  •  PC   360   Sometimes a theft won't work when stealing from a strongbox, the quest will not continue. This could be caused by Prowler's Profit.
    •  PC(Fix)   Entering player.removespell 000f20be into the console allows for the removal of Prowler's Profit, fixing the bug. This can later be reversed after the completion of The Heist Jobs by entering player.addspell 000f20be into the console to add Prowler's Profit back to the Dragonborn.
  •  PC   PS3   The quest may sometimes become impossible to complete if a person (such as a follower) distracts the Dragonborn whilst saying the quest finishing dialogue.
  • Even if the job is completed successfully, a notice may appear stating that the Dragonborn was arrested and sent to the local jail, causing them to fail the task and forfeit their share of the pay. This can also happen if the Dragonborn is arrested for an unrelated crime before turning in the heist job.
