Walkthrough[]
Upon completing "Rise of the Dead," Prince Azah will tell you that the kidnapping was just a distraction, and that the Withered Hand are looking to tunnel into something called the Impervious Vault, where the Ansei Wards are kept. They hope to use these wards to make themselves extremely powerful. He will then ask you to guide him back to the palace so that his father can be informed of what is going on.
Head across the room and pick up the copy of the lorebook Opusculus Lamae Bal ta Mezzamortie, then head to the south of the tunnel and use the ladder to get into the city. At the doors to the palace, Azah will part with you and head for the vault to guard it. Head inside and speak with the king about the Withered Hand's plans. He will ask you to seek out Gabrielle Benele at the mages guild; only the mages know how to unseal the doors to the vault. The guild tower is located north of the town square. Gabrielle will tell you that in order to break the seal on the vault, she will need you to go to the town square and collect a Worm's Head Cap and a Flame Stalk from the merchants there. Lucienne Mavine will give you the Worm's Head Cap and Neeneban has the Flame Stalk.
Once you have the ingredients, meet Gabrielle at the vault, east of the palace. She will tell you that she can open the vault enough for one person to go in, and that that should be you, but that the king wants to speak with you first. Speak with the king and he will tell you that if you run into Uwafa or Alasan in there, you should exercise extreme caution. When you are done speaking, Gabrielle will open the vault; head in and explore the area. You will have to fight your way through many Consecrated Swordmasters and Withered Hand members, indicating that you were too late. As you progress, you will hear the voice of Uwafa telling to get the Ansei Wards out. In the big chamber in the east, you will find a ghost called Ansei Radan, who will tell you that he was one of the Ansei who sacrificed themselves to create the wards, but they have now fallen into the hands of the necromancers. You were too late to recover them. You have failed.
Head back outside and bring King Fahara'jad the bad news to finish the quest and start the next one, "In Search of the Ash'abah."
