During the events of "Sleeping on the Job," the Vestige has discovered a sinister plot by Stormfist spies to infiltrate the fort and impersonate its defenders by using Daedric alchemy. Upon informing Hloenor Chill-Owl, she will tell them the following.

The Pride of a Prince 2

"Listen, let's say I believe you. Let's say there are Stormfist agents impersonating people in Fort Amol. Even if all of this is true, we can't start a panic. The leaders of the Pact are here, for Kyne's sake!"

So you just want me to let people die? "No, no, no—I didn't say that! I just don't want you running around crying murder, especially with the Pact delegations here. Think of how fragile our alliance already is. You should speak to Lord Vurlop. Tell him what you told me."
What will talking to Lord Vurlop accomplish? "He's the Jarl's advisor. He has his hand in everything that happens around here. Tell him what you told me. Leave nothing out. Vurlop's smart. If what you say is true, and by Kyne I hope it isn't, he'll know what to do—without causing a panic."
Where can I find Lord Vurlop? "You'll probably find Lord Vurlop in the inn. Like most Nords, he enjoys his mead. And I understand that nobles can get particularly thirsty when the King is in town."
You don't believe me, do you? "You have to look at this from my point of view. A stranger walks into town and makes outlandish claims about spies and impostors and murders. How do I know you're not one of these Stormfist traitors trying to cause trouble?"
Check Marla's House. That will confirm my story. "You certainly are insistent, I'll grant you that much. Look, I'll check the house as soon as I can. In the meantime, go talk to Lord Vurlop. Shor's Bones, if there really are spies in Fort Amol, His Lordship will know what to do.
The Pride of a Prince 3

Bottild hates cats.

The Vestige must head to Deldwine's Inn and seek out Lord Vurlop there to inform him of what has taken place. Vurlop will be surprised by what the Vestige has discovered after he had sent them to trail Commander Yjarnn previously, and urges them to be subtle as not to damage the already fragile Pact alliance. Vurlop will go speak to Hloenor, and asks the Vestige to report to Thane Harvald, as he will know what to do. Once there, the Vestige will witness a heated exchange of words between Harvald and Prince Irnskar. Upon speaking to him, Harvald will explain the Prince lost his temper during a meeting of his own with the Pact delegates, and managed to insult them with posturing and boastfulness. After telling him of the Stormfist spies that have infiltrated the fort, he requests the Vestige visit the Dunmer and Argonian camps as a delegate of King Jorunn and do whatever it takes to convince them to return to the meeting.

Arriving at the Dunmer camp, the Vestige must speak to Gelds Indoril, who holds contempt towards the Prince and refuses to listen to reason. He directs them to his servant, Naryu Virian. She will help the Vestige convince Gelds, as long as they bring her four bottles of Dunmer wine from the Fort Amol barracks. She directs the Vestige towards the river behind her, where she says they should be able to find a guard's uniform to help them sneak in undetected. If the Vestige has previously taken Sentry Thod's uniform, they can use his as a disguise. Once the Vestige has donned the guard disguise and entered the barracks, they can overhear Bottild mentioning his hatred of cats to Kragfarr. Outright taking the bottle of Dunmer wine infront of the guards will raise suspicion, and the guards will kick the Vestige out. The Vestige will need to travel to the Argonian camp first to collect a cat and release it in the lower floor of the barracks to cause a distraction. Once Bottild is distracted, they can take the bottle of wine without issue. The second bottle of wine is located within a closet underneath the stairwell to the left of the barracks. On the second floor are two more bottles, one of which is in the office of Sergeant Haldric Three-Boots. Destroying the wooden crate outside of his office will cause him to investigate, and the Vestige can take the bottle undetected. Upon returning, Naryu will be pleased and promises the Vestige she will convince Gelds to return to the meeting.

The Vestige must now travel to the Argonian camp, where they will have to speak to Runs-With-Quickness, who tells them the following.

The Pride of a Prince 4

"I think it figured out why cats like us so much. It's because we are so beautiful. And we smell good."

King Jorunn needs you to return to Prince Irnskar's meeting. "Excuse me, but who are you? And why is King Jorunn requesting any help from us? The Prince made it very clear that he thinks very little of my egg-kin and I. Why we even bothered coming here is beyond me."
There must be some way I can convince you to return to the Prince. "The Prince cares nothing for us! He refused to send any help to my kin in Darkwater Crossing. The trolls wander the town now and only the Hist knows what happened to my people. I offer the same thing to you as the Prince offered to me. Nothing!"
This is for King Jorunn, not Prince Irnskar. "King Jorunn is a good man. Strong and wise. I hear he hates cats. He gave shelter to my people when they fled from the Stormfists and their Orc allies. But that doesn't change the current situation. And Prince Irnskar is still a guar-licker."

I'll help your people if you agree to return to Prince Irnskar's meeting. "It's too late to help Darkwater, but not to reclaim our honor. A deal then. If you remove the head of a large troll we call Death-In-Winter and bring it to me, I will consider returning to Irnskar's meeting. For the King."

Darkwater Crossing is located southeast of Fort Amol. Once there, the Vestige will encounter a big troll named Death-In-Winter, who they must defeat. After killing the beast, they must collect its head and return to Runs-With-Quickness who thanks them for their effort and promises to return to Prince Irnskar's meeting.

Now that the Vestige has convinced all the Pact delegates to return and reconcile, they must return and report to Thane Harvald. He will be impressed by the Vestige's efforts and rewards them, upon which the quest will be completed.
