As part of the main quest, "The Skaal Test of Loyalty," this quest requires the Nerevarine to find and activate the Water Stone in the Moesring Mountains, with the help of The Story of Aevar Stone-Singer and the map.
The Story of Aevar Stone-SingerEdit
This is the extract of the book The Story of Aevar Stone-Singer that is relevant to this quest:
Aevar first set out to retrieve the Gift of Water, so he traveled to the Water Stone. It was there the All-Maker first spoke to him.
"Travel west to the sea and follow the Swimmer to the Waters of Life."
So Aevar walked to the edge of the ocean, and there was the Swimmer, a Black Horker, sent from the All-Maker. The Swimmer dove into the waters and swam very far, and far again. Aevar was strong, though, and he swam hard. He followed the Swimmer to a cave, swimming deeper and deeper, his lungs burning and his limbs exhausted. At last, he found a pocket of air, and there, in the dark, he found the Waters of Life. Gathering his strength, he took the Waters and swam back to the shore. Upon returning to the Water Stone, the All-Maker spoke.
"You have returned the Gift of Water to the Skaal. The Oceans again will bear fruit, and their thirst will be quenched."

- Enter Stahlman's Gorge
- Retrieved the Waters of Life
- Return to the Water Stone and activate it
The Water StoneEdit
The Water Stone can be found on the west side of the island, between Hvitkald Peak and Thormoor's Watch. The Water Stone is a dark grey and tall pillar and is found directly south of the entrance of Varstaad Caves. Once the stone has been activated, a message appears: "Travel west to a small island off the coast, and follow the Swimmer to seek the Water of Life.". The Nerevarine must, now, find and follow The Swimmer, a unique black horker, it is located directly northwest of the stone, on a small island off the coast. The Swimmer will swim north from the island. Until it stops above the cavern Stahlman's Gorge.
- Note: A Water Breathing spell or potion may be needed at lower levels to reach the cavern. At higher levels it is possible to hold their breath long enough.
Restoring the Waters of LifeEdit
Once retrieved, the Nerevarine must travel back to the Water Stone and activate it once again.
