  • I think that the reasons could be that: The prophecy did not mention the heroes who defeated Alduin would be helping the Dragonborn defeat Alduin again. Since it didn't happen correctly, he would returnto fulfill the prophecy. Or, all events in the scrolls will come to pass, no matter how long they are delayed. Finally, the Scrolls influence everything in the universe so what is predicted WILL happen, since they are sort of possesing the power of Aedra, and essentially are parts of the universe's creation.

    • I think Alduin is expelled to another time, as expelled by the ancient nord heros to 4E. Alduin cannot be killed, but expelled again and again and again.

    • I Think the reason that Alduin soul wasn't Absorbed was because Alduin is one day meant to destory the world.. He may have Died but He would be able to return with the Help of Akatosh as he was the one that created Alduin and Dragons Alike

    • Alduin is the child of akatosh or first born of akatosh as akatosh is the diety of time and destroying alduin destroys part of time you cant absorb his soul also alduin represents the end of time he is a key part of akatosh an inevitable event fulfiller also akatosh is part of alduin you cant kill a god not even dovakhin :( unless u use op glitched enchantments :)

    • I think that the portal above Sovngarde absorbed Alduin's soul and cast it somewhere else in the void for all eternity.

That sounds sort of like a cheap way to end things.

    • the reason why  alduin's soul was'nt absorbed was probably cause the aedra will probably want to torture his soul untill the end of mundus itself.

    • Alduin wasn't lying when he claimed to be "First-Born of Akatosh".

You can't absorb his Soul because it is Aedric.  Divine.

It's hinted that Alduin will return someday, as there's truly nothing stopping him from eventually ending the world for real.

Sorry, but being the Last Dragonborn means last. My theory is that Alduin was returned to Akatosh so that he will not commit anymore rash actions in Nirn. If the Dragonborn did abosrb his soul, he'll become a freaking god containing that kind of power.

    • Well, Alduin is a God. Just like Mehrunes Dagon, he got defeated. Just like Mehrunes Dagon, he vanished.

Technically, it's unknown whether Alduin is a god or not. We don't know exactly, but for the most part it is believed he is the most powerful spawn of Akatosh.

According to the Nordic Pantheon he is a God. Just like Shor, Tsun, Ysmir, etc.

    • I wonder that after killing Miirak u get so many souls but maybe isnt it Alduins soul that Miirak has taken.... He did disapear seveal hundred years ago.... Who can be sure he didnt get to Alduin before u and took his soul but in some was allowed Alduin to live to be a hinder in the way for the last dragonborn so Miirak may have enough time to regain time to get back into the world?!

The amount of Souls you get from Miraak depends on how many Dragon Souls Miraak stole from you. It's a nice theory, but sadly, confirmed to be false.

    • So basically Alduin's soul is one level up from dragon souls that only dragonborns can absorb, which is one level up from regular souls that anyone with a soul trap spell or enchanted weapon can absorb.

    • Miraak is really easy to kill I killed him at level twenty although it took a few tries Plus he was ORIGANALLY defeated bty a fellow Dragon preist and they worshiped dragons as gods miraak is WEAK. But has a nice sword

    • I got the impression that Alduin went rogue and decided for himself when the world needed to end, instead of when the gods decreed it should end. The final battle felt more like he was shown his place in the pantheon again.

    • I don't get any of that.  I get that Alduin let being first born go to his head and decided that he would rule the world.  Even a lot of the other dragons were afraid of him.  He went rogue as the power he possessed went to his head.

    • I think you couldn't absorb alduin's soul because he doesn't have one!

That explains why the other dragons were afraid of him.

    • I'm not really big on this. But, isn't he supposed be abandoned from a different time or something I really don't understand. I'm trying to figure out whether I should kill or not and now i got my head stuck in this????

    • We do see something get sucked into the sky when he dies, I think Akatosh might have taken his soul and is giving him a spanking for disobeying him :P

    • Alduin is the first born of akatosh, the aedra used him to destroy countless worlds before nirn, he is by all rights a demigod of destruction and the elder scrolls more powerful than the aedra themselves has foretold that alduin will end nirn. the dragonborn no matter how powerful he may become is not powerful enough to absorb the divinty of a god... if it even happened like that.... in the lore, somewhere between when the 3 heroes banished alduin to the rivers of time and our dragon born, a peice of alduin returned to nirn, a shadow of his former self, weak, shor came from sovengarde and banished this aspect of alduin once more in a furious battle, this could've happened again with our character being an aspect of shor and us fending off an aspect of alduin, but that means the dragon we faced was nothing compared to the coming power of the true alduin.

    • I'd like to know why Alduin cannot be slain on Nirn, and had to be in Sovngarde to be defeated. Is that supposed to just be a nod to the method of defeat for Umaril the Unfeathered.

    • I think it was absorbed but not by you. You get the ability to absorb a dragon soul from Akatosh the father of dragons and since Akatosh is the strongest dragons he absorbed the soul or Talos since he is the dragonborn god.
