  • I have Elder Scroll (Dragon) and whenever I read it, wherever I read it, nothing happens, the game screen just pauses until I hit escape (unlike the other scrolls like Sun, etc, where I do open the scroll and get the blinding effect). I have 72hrs of real life time since my last save :( so I absolutely cannot go back to a previous save. I am progressing through Dawnguard DLC as well and have 2 scrolls in Books (Elder Scroll: Dragon and Elder Scroll: Sun, but Dragon is totally bugged, it looks like the Universe just freezes/pauses every time I try to read/use the Dragon scroll, be it in Time Wound or elsewhere). I've fast travelled, read it there (same "nothing happens" bug) and waited hours and hours, days even, gone back to Time Wound, you name it...zero progression and a bug that NO guides or Googling can explain or help me with (I've tried all the usual fixes, this is a brand new bug from everything I've read...Elder Scroll (Dragon) book just does...nothing...when read, just seems to stop space and time and won't actually life the scroll and have me pull it down like other scrolls when read). Help?

    • won't actually lift* the scroll up and pull out the mystical writing sheet (like the Sun scroll and other scrolls correctly do).

    • There are a lot of new bugs since Dragonborn was released. Bethesda should be releasing a patch to fix them, hopefully soon.

We learned the hard way, while playing Oblivion and Fallout, to save early and save often when playing Bethesda's games. With Oblivion, saves were sometimes corrupted as well, so we started saving twice (the second save after moving a few steps).

    • The scroll is probably used by another quest and cannot perform its function right now at the time wound or the ancestors glade. Try completing either the Skyrim main quest, or Dawnguard (depending on what quest you can't complete, try the other) and it might work again. If it still won't, it is possible that the Elder Scroll (Dragon) had its alias overwritten by the other quests and is broken until that other quest is completed.

That means you may indeed have to use an older savegame if completion still won't fix it. If you are on PC, you could reset the quest for the time wound or ancestors glade.

    • No auto saves?

        Loading editor
    • Autosaves are usually not far enough back. For insurance, one should save periodically, especially after finishing an important or difficult task.

Also, we have had instances where all the autosaves were corrupted (when one of the Great Lifts malfunctioned).

    • Same problem here and I have talked to Bethesda support and they are worse than useless they have no clue. I've had this issue for about 4 months and just gave up playing the game because I have about 120 hours play time and 40 levels since I originally got the scroll. Any fixes for this yet?

    • Are you guys opening it at the throat of the world, Also what device are you playing on PS3,Xbox 360 Or pc? These could be unique bugs to either of them.

I had a similar problem. I crashed if I opened the Dragon scroll away from the time wound when I open it at the wound its fine.

    • Can we look at something a little more impressive than the glitch?  The poster said they have 72 hours of REAL LIFE time between saves?! Holy crap!

    • Thats like 3/4 of my time playing skyrim. What magical power do you have to have so much spare time!?

    • My point, go back up and read what they said . . . if it's to be taken litteral then this person was sitting there for 72 hours straight playing the game, wasted a whole holiday weekend, lol.

is it weird if I have 2 files with over 200 hours, 3 with more than 100, another 3 with more than 50, and the rest ranging between 5 and 48?

    • No, just means you play Skyrim more than me.  My time is split between so many different games, if I devoted all that time to Skyrim I'd probably have you beat.

I'm don't have the luxury to buy all the games I want, and then when I do have time to play a game I usually pick skyrim, because it's the one that I have the most fun with, I also play Red Dead Redemption, and Saints Row 3 if I have someone to Co-Op with. And I play pokemon on my DS durring loading screens, them PS3 Skyrim Loading screens...*Bursts out in tears.*

    • I do all of my gaming on PC anymore and Steam has a big Summer Sale and a big Christmas Sale every year, so I get games at amazing prices, plus the free to play stuff I'm on right now.  Then there's that pesky girlfriend, always wanting to do stuff together . . . (j/k, love that girl, she puts up with me, lol).

oh, I know about steam, I use it and I own skyrim for the PC, but my current PC sucks for gaming, so of all the games that I buy because they're cheap and I want to play them, I only have a decent enough PC to play about a third of them.

but USUALLY when I'm not at work my ass of a little brother is playing call of duty yelling at other children who are doing the same things he does to suck his d*** and that they're just a bunch of little fa****s, and my mother spoils him so even though I bought the PS3, and all the games, if I take it away from him she shuts off the power. so I make good use of my insomnia.

    • I have the exact same problem, the Elder Scroll is just unuseable anywhere in the game, just nothing happens when you click it. But I cant get past the time wound because I am on PS3.

And my last save where the scroll is working as intended is one hundred hours of gameplay back... yippee...

And I only have Hearthfire installed, no Dawnguard. Filtered out the 2 saves where in between the scroll suddenly stopped working, and that was 2 days BEFORE I installed Hearthfire, so the expansion has nothing to do with it.

We learned early on (playing Fallout 3), to save early and save often when playing Bethesda games. With Oblivion, for important saves,  we learned to save twice, moving a step or two between saves, as saves can be corrupted.

This fixed it for me, thanks for the tip.

I would also add "player.dispelallspells" in case there's some spell that prevents it.

Are you responding to the person who was having trouble six years ago, or the person who was having trouble two years ago? Either way, I think they're probably over it.
