  • i am a level 60 with the staff of mirak and the ebony blade i was arrested  and all my items were confiscated when i escaped from my cell one of the guards went running to the prisoner belonging chest and used my staff of mirak against me. i got everyhting else back and the staff when i killed him but my ebony blade had disappeared.

is it common knowledge guards steal from the chests in prisons??

    • I don't know. But I know that Riften is famous for the thieves.

    • I wouldnt call it "stealing". I mean, if a powerfull person (like the Dragonborn) broke out of jail and it was my job to stop him, i would try to use for powerful weapons, like the ones i took from him when i put him in jail.

Your sword being gone sounds like a bug, if its not in the chest or on any of the guards, look in the room to see if it respawned. If its not in those places its gone. Sorry.

    • uld mention the sword was gotten through a wall glitch in dragons reach i think that may be why it keeps disappearing.

    • Yeah they stole my skull of corruption and staff of magnus so it made it very difficult died on my first try also i like moved toward the back of the bed in the cell and they just attacked me didnt escape or anything just random attacks

    • Those guards used my Staff of Magnus against me when I broke out of jail! I died many times because my magicka was drained and I cannot kill lvl 50 guards with just my High Elf fists.

    • How come you can't escape properly from Riften Jail?

On one wall of the cell there's an option to "Activate Broken Shackle"... I did this expecting a tunnel to open, but nothing happens and the guards just come in and kill me.

    • I have heard of guards using the player's weapons from the evidence chest to fight against them. I don't know about you, but to me, that really clever AI.

    • Why and how would anyone get arrested in this game? I have spent 0 days jailed and jailed only once,  according to my stats.... but I guess it is how you play...

Well if you commit a lot of crimes, and can't pay the bounty and don't want to fight the guards, then the only other option is jail time.

Just as I said it is how you play, see I play without commiting crimes that are not necessary for quests and the like... Basically I play the good guy. I find it very distasteful to be a on the dark side, yet in contrast I get the dark brotherhood and thieves guild done early and then work on redeeming myself... again it's how differant people play.... and a side note here... being "good" has very much paid off for me, I own all three properties have fully furnished homes on each, and have a comfy 100,000 gold on a regular basis. Sounds like if I took up crime I would be in the poor house and locked up all the time,... Jus Saying... :)

Lol. Okay, I did't mean anything by it. Nonetheless, after having a hefty bounty in Markarth of three hundred thousand, and doing the quest in Cidna Mine, which got rid of my bounty, I've amassed about 500 thousand gold since then. And bought every house and fully furnished, and built every house and fully customized. But, yeah, it does depend a little on play style.

I guess I did come across as braggy. Sorry.

    • Why allow yourself to get caught in the first place?  Be stealthy and you won't lose all your loot.  I've been arrested ONCE, and that was because I was framed, and I needed to get thrown into Cidhna Mine in order to escape for the quest.  If we're gonna brag, I've got 1.4 million in coin, and equal amount in precious gems, and millions more worth of armor, weapons, scrolls, potions, etc. stockpiled in case the game ever changes to allow us to start building armies.

    • I don't often steal, but when I do I make sure no one's lookimg. However, I want this achievement, so i'm probably gonna get thrown in jail in Raven Rock where at least I'm not a Thane.

Btw, why is it the Thieves guild option to avoid jail is always way more gold than the bounty.

    • This is a pretty old thread but a npc will sometimes pick up weapons even from chests, for example Alvor doesn't have a weapon but a soon as he needs one he'll grab the strongest weapon on display at his forge (usually from the rack i think).

Paying a fine normally you get your stolen items confiscated if you use the guild option you keep them, if you mean the Master Criminal achievement you only need a bounty of a thousand gold in each of Skyrim's Holds not on Solstheim.

    • I meant the Wanted achievement, I'm not sure yet about the Master Criminal one cause it's against my usual playing style.

I think it's if someone did a huge heist, but when they stole the last item, they were seen, and they pay the gold so they keep their stolen stuff.

    • Do you think you can pick pocket the guards?

      Why not try that theory?
