^^^ - Honestly I don't have anything against them but I just don't find them at all that interesting but luckily since you're the main character in the game I guess you could make him/her interesting then (Their special ability to quickly regenerate stamina does sound really nice for two handed fighters).
If you're truly wondering what people's favorites are then mine would have to be:
Elf - Bosmer
Human - Breton (Yes I know half human/elf but oh well)
Beastfolk - Argonian
I like all Khajiit as well but I've always loved reptiles so Argonian is my all time favorite hands down. And people don't stress choosing what race you need to choose to play as for a style. Argonians aren't meant to be a two-handed heavy armor but I use it that way (actually I use every skill as much as possible).
Non-Elf/Human Species - Argonian
there's a word for that... beastfolk
Was to busy to think of the word I tend to forget the smaller things while multi-tasking too many things all at once.
I've always felt that the Beast races lean more towards thievery because currently thats how they survive in skyrim ... Khajiits make great assassins (Night Vision, Unarmed Dmg, Bonus to Sneak skill) and Argonians are good all around thieves, (Waterbreathing, Histskin, Resistance to poison ... ) Not to mention both of them have good starts in the Thief play style skills. WIth their primarys being Lockpicking for the argonians and Sneak for the Khajiit. It's most likely this way because they are mistreated and they have to be a thief or assassin to survive.
You actually got that around the Khajiit are natural thieves they have claws if ever unarmed they are a lot more agile & flexible and they can see very easily in the dark. The argonians are trained to be assassins for the Dark Brotherhood if they are born under the shadow star (I think that's the right star). The ability to breathe underwater as well as being resistant to diseases allows the argonians to be versatile assassins (as much as I love playing the assassin style I still use magicka & two-handed with Argonians as well).
But you are right that the two beast races do learn towards that area of expertise. But I mainly like playing as argonians because you get to be a reptile come on that's awesome right there (Since no one really knows how the argonians came to be I wonder if they dragons somehow had something to do with their creation).
I play as a Breton. I was smitten by the fact that they were of both human and elven ancestry, as well as by their reputation for intelligence. Plus, I liked the look I was able to get for my character in the editor. Despite their predesposition for magic, I play mine as an archer/assasin (that is, high focus on archery, sneaking and light armor perks), and rarely use magic. Out of character for the race, perhaps, but it has worked very well, methinks. They can't all be mages, right?
If I ever find the time, I may start a game as an Orc, just to try something entirely different (i.e. go for power, two handed and heavy armor, maybe).
I'm torn between the beast races. Reptiles have been a favorite critter of mine since childhood, so Argonians and the like are naturally cool to me, but the Khajiit with their mysticism and cool voice and culture are really interesting.
In the realm of humanoids I'd probably pick the Nord, but I am biased, since Skyrim is the only TES game I've played. I do like their voices and toughness, though.
Gotta be the Orc for me - they are just so fun to play. Give 'em a mace or a hammer, enough perks that allow them to bypass most armor, turn on Berserker Rage, and just watch them wreck.

Imperials are the leading dominant section of humans in Tamriel plus they find extra gold ~ in game they can calm people with their once a day power.
Nords are straight in your face fighters with the reduction of ice magicka damage ~ in game they additionally get that nifty battle cry to make enemies run in fear.
Redguards could be listed as the best head to head fighters plus they got 50% resistance to poison ~ in game they have the ability to quickly regenerate their stamina.
Bretons are technically human-elf hybrids but I suppose you can still count them as human mainly since their elf side has dwindeled greatly compared to their human side they also have a 25% resistance to all magic ~ in game they can use dragonskin to absorb 50% of spells for some time.
I still say Bretons are my favorite human type not just because of the whole extra magicka defense but because it's wonderful to see a hybrid in games & for them not to be hunted to extinction (Even more so that they are generally & mostly accepted anywhere unlike the Khajiit or Argonians).
