So, I want the dragonbone battleaxe one of the keepers has, but I killed one of the keepers and its weapon wasn't lootable...
The wiki page says: "They can also drop dragonbone weapons, but not their armor. However, if the Dragonborn is at a low level, their weapons may not be lootable."
So my question is, what level do I have to be before their weapons are lootable? I'm playing a two-handed battlemage (focusing mostly on alteration and conjuration, no armor), smithing isn't exactly top priority, so that's why I was going after the keepers rather than making the axe myself. I'm at level 37 at the moment.
I couldn't find any page that said generally when dragonbone weapons start appearing as random loot either? if anyone knows that, that would be a good guide.
Dragonscale armor at 46, dragonplate armor at 40, dragonbone weapons at ???
Man, even UESP doesn't know, where do I even go from here... I guess at this point I'm going to retry every couple levels until the weapons are lootable. The annoying part is at that point in the questline Serana decides she isn't leaving my side and won't shut up about the keepers :/ so I have to go back to an earlier save and go find Valerica and test-kill a keeper every time.
I am at level 40 now, I'll try again and let you guys know.
Can't loot them at level 40. Guess I have to level up some more... It's weird because I don't think I was even this high a level when I did this with other characters, and I'm pretty sure I've looted their weapons before.
Edit: It must have been somewhere between 40 and 46, because I can loot them now at 46. Just going to edit this post and hope this thread dies since I answered my own question again (although it looks like AzuraKnight was right with 46?)
I'm aware of that but considering that this character doesn't even wear armor, and only uses one weapon, it wouldn't be worth the time and effort, especially when it comes to traveling everywhere picking up the resources to make the items... or to transmute ore if I were to go the jewelry route, which is what I tend to do. Leveling up from 15 to 100 for something like smithing is a big deal, I've done it before.
This character is primarily a mage, that uses a battleaxe for physical combat. But I have the axe now, it's all good.
For me the weapons weren't lootable but if you're quick enough(you have like 1second) you'll notice before ash the keepers body is on the floor before it turns to ash loot it and you'll get the weapon so now I have a good mace and bow I don't need a battleaxe

You could try learning all the words for the disarm shout and make the keeper drop it and quickly pick it up before he does
facepalm* wow that might actually work XD the thing that sucks for me is that dragonbone armor didn't start appearing until I was lvl 56 but no dragonbone weapons (btw i do have all 3 dlc's installed so I should be getting dragonbone weapons)
Have any of you guys had any luck so far? I think that the idea of disarming the opponent is a good one, but to effectively do so you have to be at such a level that you *should* just be able to loot them. If you're on PC, you could always console code them in. If you're on PS3/X360, you might just be out of luck!
I was not under the impression that Keepers were coded to be able to drop armor as loot. I'll hunt them down in CK, and get back to you guys.
EDIT: Keepers have their own versions of Dragonbone armor and weapons, which all have the "Can't Drop" flag active, and the "Playable" flag inactive.
Now I suspect that they have an immunity to Disarm (either through "Can't Drop" on the weapon, or some kind of actor flag), but even if they were, their weapons are NOT obtainable or usable by any non-mod means. That includes console commands.
It also appears that, due to the presence of several dragonbone weapons in a sublist, that they were intended to drop the weapons (as well as filled Black Soul Gems), but that was cut at some point. I'll edit the wiki pages accordingly.
45 is the lowest level you can be to lootthe dragonbone weapons
But you have a high chance of looting all the items:
Dragonbone bow n arrow,
Battle-axe, and mace
If your level is higher than the base level of 45 required to loot those weapons
I recommend level 50 and look up the YouTuber Eso Skyrim and fallout
For more info on that
