  • Ive recently thought that ebony ore may emit a gas when I heard the owner of the Raven Rock mine claim that he can smell more ebony in the mine but was not able to reach it.

If you also go to Narzulbar ebony mine, the large concentration of ebony is surrounded by gas which supports the previous statement.

I also noticed that the Ebony Armor emits a gas-like aura that damages enemies, perhaps the unique thing about it is that Artifact was able to keep emitting the dangerous gasses after forging it.

It could also be that the artifact was somehow forged with iron in it which would make sense to also emit the gases as the only parts of the ebony mine that contain gas is the ebony in close proximity to raw iron.

    • Lots of mines and caves have gas in them though and the normal Ebony Armor doesn't emit anything its the Ebony Mail the Daedric Artifact of Boethiah that emits the poison cloud.

    • Yes it is. Maybe the gas is a form of matter from the plain of Oblivion. A daedric scent most people haven't addapted to. Maybe I haven't finished my study of the God-like beings of the darkest and farthest place along the stars. A place most say evil, while I say beutiful. Maybe this Daedric Prince has worn this in the reaches of sky. Oh if this mail could speak, and tell us the true story.

Why should it be from a plane of Oblivion? Ebony is Lorkhan's crystalized blood and Lorkhan is an Aedra.

    • I'm the person who just posted this. I was on skyrim and found a ebony ingot a while ago and looked at it and said, "Oh Azura, oh Clavicus-Vile, oh Boethiah, by Molag-Bal tell me, how do daedra get this powerful ore, tell me the more! How, when, where. Tell me all, tell me none, tell me how you make but one. Just tell me now, tell me later, please tell me soon or I'll be a hater. Why is this gift to us, why not them, I want to know how you made this chem. My research grows, my idea shrinks, oh tell me how all this links. I want to think, I need to know, how you make the ebony swords, axes, and bows. Oh by the daedra, by the nine, tell me how you make this fiiiiiiiinnnne. Eeeeeboooooonyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!" Thankyou, thankyou.

    • ok i'm gonna quote a previous poster on this, "Ebony is Lorkhan's crystalized blood and Lorkhan is an Aedra." Lore does tell us this. so shove that in the face of anyone who thinks ebony is from the realm of oblivion

    • Ebony IRL is a type of tree. How can a tree emit toxic gasses in a mine?

If you didn't notice yet, it's a type of metal in TES.

    • It's not the Ebony ore itself that emits gases. Ebony is a volcanic glass. That being said, it is often found around volcanoes, which release TONS of dangerous gases.

    • Redbelly's miners refer to the mist as like that coming from the volcanic springs, so its probably volcanic in origin, seeping up through the rocks.

I think you mean obsidian. In this context, ebony is a fictional black metal.

The volcanic glass U refer to is  OBSIDIAN!

    • The mist in Redbelly Mine is most likely water tinged with oxidized iron, which can happen when an iron-rich body of water is heated to boiling. Any lower temperature will leave the iron in the liquid while the water evaporates.

In this context, Ebony is a fictional black volcanic crystal, much tougher than real-world obsidian.  It's not a "metal" at all.

If you played TESIII: Morrowind, you'd know this.

Well, I didn't play Morrowind, so I didn't know this. I was just trying to clarify that obsidian and ebony are not the same thing.

    • I believe that when he says he can smell more ebony in the mine, but not reach it he means that he knows there is more ebony ore there in the mine, but he can't reach it by ordinary means.

    • Yeah, it's probably just figurative language. He just thinks that there is more ebony in the mine.

Yeah. Plus, The Ebony Mail was enchanted by Boethiah. I have not advanced in Skyrim that much, so I don't know much about the Aedra, so I'm not sure if the whole'Ebony is Lorkhan's crystalized blood' is true.
