I'm split on if I should get Dawnguard or dragonborn, which one should I get? Please include WHY you think I should pick one over the other. If it helps, my character is a nord melee-focused character who uses warhammers.
Dude,i dunno.Dragonborn has potentially more time and a very badass looking warhammer, but Dawnguard is more fun,has Van Helsing like crossbow wielding vampire hunters and perks for werewolves.
I'd say Dragonborn. The main quest may not be as good as Dawnguard's but it adds a lot more content. Plus, it adds much more sidequests then Dawnguard does.
Well,it feels nostalgic in Solstheim and it last longer...and you can ride dragons. It is somewhat limited bu the dragon riding continues pretty amazing. It also has very cool shouts.Yeah,it is like Bow Ties said, roll a dice.
Well, Dragonborn does have unique items including the best light armor in the game (Deathbrand Armor). As for the story, it would have been a lot better if it wasn't so short. It feels rushed. Dawnguard has a dark story but it is a completely different saga from the main quest, while Dragonborn is more of a continuation of the main quest. If you want content, go for Dragonborn. If you want a cool story, get Dawnguard. But Dawnguard gets boring quite fast after you complete the main quest.

Right for everything except for when you said "longer storyline". Dawnguard actually has a longer storyline. Dragonborn's takes around 2-4 hours to complete while Dawnguard's takes about 6-8 hours to complete. Dragonborn's storyline was way too short when compared to Dawnguards. But Dragonborn wins in everything else. And Miraak > Harkon.
dawnguard takes longer but it get's boring quick after a few quests I would get get dawnguard first so you can gear up with dragon bone weapons a, cross bow,but dragonborn is better over all. this is my first post :)
Dragonborn is better imo. In dragonborn:
-New island (solshiem from morrowind)
-stalhrim weapons amd armor.
-Lots of interesting new alchemy ingredience
-new enemies like netches, burned spriggan, ore-and-gem filled ash spawn, serpetine dragon (dragon with snake head) etc
-YOU CAN BEND DRAGONS TO YOUR WILL WITH A SHOUT AND TAME AND RIDE THEM, AMYWHERE.
-5 new dragon priests
-You get to go to a daedric realm and get new powers as a result. Very useful powers
-Very hard Lv.90 hidden boss (karstaag)
-One of those dragon priests is the FIRST DRAGONBORN. you, the last dragonborn, fighting the first dragonborn, on top of a daedric realm.
-lots of fun sidequests
-A sword that shoots lazer beams
-New dwarven ruins
-At level 80, you get to meat the Ebony Warrior, One VERY HARD,But amazingly fun boss fight
And that is only some of many great things.
Dawnguard does have its things though:
-A realm of dead souls
-You either join the dawnguard to killl the vampires, or be a vampire lord and get elder scrolls and stuff.
-A realm of dead souls
-Adds different charuses
-(the slow, not so good) crossbows
-A werewolf/vampire skill tree
-New armors
-A few decent shouts
-Adds a person in the theives guild that can change your appearance.
-A very bow
-IT ADDS HARD-AS-HELL LEGENDARY DRAGONS (that only start to appear when at level 78) (its also adds revered dragons, 2nd hardest)
-A new hidden dwemer ruins with a Very special Dwemer boss (thogh it is side quest. Not dawnguard side-quest, just a regular sidequest), and you get a aetherieum item (which are quite buggy sometimes)
Thats...not really worth when compared to Dragonborn. But it IS really cool nontheless. Dawnguard is more...something for itself, rather than dragonborn, which goes to a seperate island with events that effect both skyrim and solsthiem. Dawnguard, besides main quest, really, you can be a vampire lord, but thats your choice...and some new chaures types. The only worthy thing outside the main quest is the legendary and revered dragons, with the aetherieum forge being a close secound.
So bottom line: Get Both, but do dragonborn first, and only start dawnguard AFTER the DB main quest.

Omg, Karstaag is one of the most difficult enemies there is. You have to kill him in order to get the Summon Karstaag power. I was like, level 20, and in two swings, I almost died ;-; I think, in my opinion, that the Aetherium quest it a lot more beneficial, but it's just like getting Summon Karstaag. In order to get the aetherium crown, staff or shield, you have to beat the Forge Guardian (or some such name). Theyre equally difficult, but the guardian is easier to beat. :P
@cindaiathedragon do you mean equally leveled... because they can't be equally difficult but ones easier. also, please stop posting on this thread, the original issue has been solved.
Personally, I got both. I couldn’t figure out which one I wanted and just got both, and started Dawnguard first so I could hype up on new weapons and armor, then started Dragonborn for the story and the island. I would have liked to start Dragonborn first but being level 20 I wasn’t gonna do it. I counted it as a suspense-builder for the new island.
Ok I LOVE the Dragonborn (or should I say Dragonborne) because there is a whole new ISLAND to explore with more underneath than above! And you can ride dragons. + theres these gigantic jellyfish things (netch) and some awsome new armor (Ahzidals, stalhrim, Chitin.) And if you ask me the dengeons (essecally nordic ones which doseint make sence) are way better than thoe ones back on the mainland. AAAAAAAnd gigantic living mushroom houses (Ive always wondered a about the smell inside Tel Mytherin, maby thats what drove Neloth insane) This DLC adds a plethora of new dugeos that are totally badass and I think thats what makes it the better choice. But, even though it may be the better choice, both DB and DG are fantastical add ons to the game. Hank you berry much.
