  • As a very warrior like person, I like to use swords - as they swing faster than the dreaded two-handed useless pieces of skooma. But, I'm stuck - Dragonbone vs Daedric Sword? I have 100 smithing, and legendary one-handed (around 75). They both have really good damage, but they are equal damage on my user - 88 damage each (with enchantments from other armour pieces). I don't like dual-wielding, and I always use a destruction magic or a shield.

So, basically - Dragonbone vs Daedric?

    • If their both the same then just go for the one you think looks best.

        Loading editor
    • I would go with Dragonbane until you slap a nice enchant on the Daedric. Dragonbane is stronger due to its enchant but Daedric will beat it if you have a high enchanting and can slap on a nice enchant, or 2 even if its at 100.

        Loading editor
    • Are you talking about Dragonbone or Dragonbane

        Loading editor
    • Dragonbone, I think it looks so much better and it can go with almost every armor set.

        Loading editor
    • Dragonbone is awesome. If you add a fire damage enchantment on it and you will be unstoppable

        Loading editor
    • Dragonbone sword man! At least its straight and has a sheathe. Also, the stabbing animations look less stupid (if you had a real daedric sword, stabbing can twist your wrist!). Just stick good ol chaos and lifeleech and you are set.

Still, Stalhrim with chaos and lifeleech for the win! (make sure you have destruction reduction 100% first, though). 700 physical, 91 lifeleech and 12.5 % chance to do another 900 damage! (12.5% 0 extra, 37.5% 300 more, 37.5% 600 more). Thats about 800 - 1700 damage for 1 sword. If you use daedric or dragonbone, its 25% less power for the chaos, but only 12 physical more...

        Loading editor
    • I prefer Dragonbone. AWC 202.156 made some good point's to note. Dragonbone with higher level's of Smithing will do more damage than Daedric, not by a lot so choose the one you like better. Chaos Enchantment with Health Drain is an excellent damage / healing combo, if dual wielding I Enchant with Chaos and Stamina Drain on the second weapon. The Stalhrim weapon's get a bonus to Chaos Damage which in turn give's a bonus to other Destruction based enchant's, so technically Stalhrim can do more damage than Dragonbone and Daedric. Just remember that Destruction damage perk's will increase Chaos and Health Drain damage, the Enchant elemental damage perk's will increase only Chaos damage.

    • why not both? :)

        Loading editor
    • Dragonbone does more damage but if you have a sweet enchantment on your daedric it will beast, or u can go by looks

        Loading editor
    • Both are doing the same damage on your character, so you might as well use the Daedric one since it's lighter.

If you're going for style though I would definitely use the Dragonbone one, Daedric is very overrated plus how badass is it to wield a weapon (and/or even armor) made from bones of the most dangerous creatures in the game?

    • i dunno if it's me, but my dragonbone swords are shown to be 55 in strength once reinforced, but when i compare to other weapons, most of them outshine the dragonbone sword.  Is dragonbone supposed to be low?

    • You do realize that the difference between the 2 are very minimal and it really comes down to cosmetics as it won't hamper your preformance, doesn't matter waht you pick, go for your life

No, it just has to do with your skill in One-Handed. You probably just have a higher skill level when it comes to Two-handed or Archery which makes it seem low.

The Dragonbone weapons have the highest damage output in the game.

    • I'd defenatly go with the dragonbone sword personally,it looks better, but it dose kind of depend if your playing a dark or evil kind of playstyle, for example,a darkbrotherhood member, deadric should suit you,or if you playing a good hero type play style, dragonbone is defenatly the choice.

    • Dragonbone should do more damage but Daedric swings faster because it is lighter. However, Dragonbone + Elemental fury should be better than Daedric.

All swords, regardless of weight, have an attack speed multiplier of 1 (really, I am not joking). So dragonbone, stats wise is one notch above daedric, dealing 10-12 damage more per strike if the correct enchants are used on armor and the correct perks are taken

        Loading editor
    • If the Dragonbone and Daedric weapons have the EXACT same damage use Daedric because it swings faster because it weighs less if they are not even in damage use the one with more damage to it.

    • if you like weapons that are made up of dragons or daedrics i have actually started using dragonbone because of 2 reasons. 1. is every video on youtube uses daedric and i think its time we switch it up a bit. 2. dragon looks cooler with a broad hilt and nice ridges on the blade it does weigh more, but only by 4 lbs daedric weighs 23, and dragonbone weighs 27 that is greatsword weight, because im a barbarian.

        Loading editor
    • The vanilla dragonbone sword looks a bit derpy, due to the weird lumpy blade. Most of the other bone weapons are better-looking, particularly the greatsword. However, if you're on PC and use the "better shaped weapons" mod, the 1h sword is reshaped to look more similar to the greatsword. It's very very nice.

As for Daedric? Main reason I don't normally use Daedric gear on my mains is that it's black and red. Those are villain colors. Really, they are. At least, the way they're handled there; the Royal Vampire Armor has a sort of regal look that works pretty well. But anyway, that and the fact that they don't have sheaths (again, fixed by Better Shaped Weapons) tends to turn me off of Daedric gear. Well, okay, and the fact that they're horribly overrated. Incidentally, where does this whole notion of "nothing should ever be better than Daedric because in lore Daedric is the strongest metal" come from? Never really seen a source on that...

    • If your the kind of guy that uses them without enchantment dragonbone has 1+ damage than daedric but with enchantment I prefer daedric

        Loading editor
    • to be honest i think dragonbone sword looks better than the daedric

        Loading editor
    • Dragonbone sword is better because of the higher base damage and because the perk is Dragon Armor you can improve it more.

        Loading editor
    • Personally, I'd go with Deadric. Not only is it lighter, but I prefer the cosmetics of the sword. Although the dragonbone sword is techincally stronger, its not by much. I have legendary level 100 for One-Handed and, although I almost always dual wield, I find that using Deadric weapons is faster therefor making it do more damage in the long run.

        Loading editor
    • Daedric Swords are lighter than the Dragonbone sword, which means it might swing better, but I'm not positive if this is true since I hardly use swords, I'm more of a mace and battleaxe person. I do know though that since it's lighter it'll be better for your carrying capacity. As for power? The Dragonbone is just a notch stronger than the Daedric Sword, that is, if the Daedric sword isn't enchanted, now if you were to enchant the Dragonbone Sword then no doubt would I suggest choosing Dragonbone.

      Dragonbone:

      Base Damage: 15

      Weight: 19

      Daedric Sword:

      Base Damage: 14

      Weight: 16

Personally I'd just go with whichever sword is better looking xD.

        Loading editor
    • A popular misconception is that lighter weapons swing faster. This is untrue. All swords, unless specifically stated, have an attack speed of one attack per second.

So just pick whichever you like, really

    • Dragon bone weapons require dragon bones. The wiki says the ingredients are more common. They don't mention that at my level I must kill a legendary dragon to make a weapon. I was smart and at breeze home ,the only reason I bought this house was to store dragonbone scales and bones. I ended up at 50 each but ran out at lv53. So I'm lv87 with nothing. Daedric is easy to get. Don't say about the shrine of mehrunes. I killed the guy and I can't go in it. That's why I use Daedric and loss it all on bodyguards with death brand armour. Lol

    • Whatever looks best, man! I'm a guy who goes for esthetics, so all you gotta do is get some armor that looks cool, get a weapon that goes well with it, and beat the crap outta everyone you see! If you want power, though, enchant and improve your weapon until the Aedra and Daedra are afraid of you.

But, to answer your question... Daedric. It looks SO much better. That is, unless you are a paladin, or someone that hates Daedra. Or you have Dragonplate Armor.

    • A Stalhrim Sword is better than both.

Just dual-enchant a Stalhrim Sword with Chaos Damage and Frost Damage.  Neither Daedric or Dragonbone Swords will ever be able to do as much in raw damage.

    • Honestly Chillrend is better than them all...

    • Out of the two options CzechMate gave a long time ago i would always go for the Dragonbone Sword mainly because i don't like the look of Daedric.

    • Daedric for a heavy armor user Dragonbone for a light armor user. Daedric saves you a perk point which admitedly becomes trivial if you play to the point that you can get every perk you want, but for argument's sake 1 perk point is 1 perk point, Daedric Armor > Dragon Armor. Daedric gets you attacked by religious zealots of the Faith so there is the notion that Daedric = evil. If you want to play the 'hero' then you're going to want Dragon anyway so it shouldn't be a debate between the two without considering the armors and the type of character you want. Daggers > Swords IMO faster swing speed = more enchantment triggers.

Odd, my dragonbone sword always deals more damage than Daedric. I usually wear daedric armor and use dragonbone weapons for maximising stats. But man, Daedric Armor are ugly as hell.

    • I use dragonbone and dragonplate instead of daedric because it fits with the whole "dragonslayer" motif. Sometimes, I use daedric just because I feel like it. However, I am one of those outcast freaks, and I think that dragonplate looks better than daedric in some departments. Except for the dragonplate helmet. It looks like a gimp mask

    • Well, weight of weapons affect stamina cost of swings.

      power attacks cost 40 + 2*weight.

a 0 weight bound sword cost 40 stamina each power attack, 30 after perks

a 9 weight nord hero sword cost 58 stamina each power attack, 44 after perks

a 16 weight daedric sword cost 72 stamina each power attack, 54 after perks

a 19 weight dragonbone sword cost 78 stamina each power attack, 59 after perks

bound weapons can't be disarmed, but also can't be smithed to legendary

also, nord hero swords are good to see, watch how rock those draugr with swords or bows. unfortunately axe look like broken axes, maces and hammers doesn't exixts, but you can go with nordic hammers, maces or skyforge dagger. Lower Stamina Cost mean More Power Attacks! More Power Attacks mean more Stagger Effects! Think about it, not only aestetics buto also pratical!

    • I personally prefer Dragonbone, mostly because I despise all Daedra EXCEPT for Sheogorath, he's fun. It definitly is down to preference of design, while I understand that daedric is the best armor, it looks terrible, cause the vigilants to attack you, whom I generally agree with by the way, and the only benefit is 10% higher intimidation chance. Dragonbone goes with the dragon slayer look, it looks badass, especially when dual weilded, and I dowloaded a mod that creates Dragonbone Ebonsteel armor, and I generally where Konakrin.

    • alright guys I'm about to mess up the whole conversation it's true that maxed out the dragon bone sword in the Daedric sword are the same but I found something stronger if you max out the Daedric daggers there stronger than the Daedric sword maybe take the Daedric daggers to the grindstone you'll have a more powerful weapon

    • the only downside to my idea of the daggers instead of the swords is range you have to get closer with daggers
