  • I am a total newbie at games. The last game I played was Myst. Anyhow, I cannot figure out how to get the key to the door in the Helgen Keep so I can get out. It's floating in my inventory. It won't let me "equip". So I am stuck wandering around. I picked up potions and potatoes, rabbit and such. Maybe I should look in one of the sacks again. Can anyone help? I hope I've given enough detail.

    • On the corpse of one of the deceased? Or maybe it's in one of the chests. I think it depends on who you left Helgen with on where to find the key.

    • a seconed key in chest back when you get into the keep

    • "Equip" isn't needed, if you have the key in your inventory, activate the door and it will unluck.  You don't actively use keys, they simply sit in your inventory and unlock any doors they are coded to unlock.

    • Thank you all.  What I should have mentioned in my previous question was that I was unable to "open Skyrim" - the message I got was the "door was blocked on the other side", BUT, I think that's past me now because after roaming around a bit collecting potions and such, I saw Hadvar and I walked over a wooden bridge after seeing the dead guy in a cage, etc.  So I am at the point where we are looking for a way out.  I keep losing him - he moves so fast - I'll have to up my mouse skills!

There  is so much to learn - like, how do I use a sword or any of the other tools I took?  Perhaps I'm too early in the game?

    • To use draw a sword, simply use either the draw weapon key/button or attack (attacking with an undrawn sword will draw it. Open you inventory with the inventory key/button if you haven't equipped you sword.

If you really are clueless, open the journal, go the the settings menu, and check "help"

    • Excellent. I will look into this. Took a break for a few days from the game.

    • It really is am awesome game.  The tutorials could be better, I really do wish there were two options for the tutorial/start game, one for beginners like yourself, and another for people that already know how to play the games.  That way they wouldn't have to rush the tutorials to keep themselves from loosing the verteran players before they even start the game.
