    • Aerin suffered the same fate the first time I played Dawnguard. But I reloaded, and he's still around.

    • I've had most Whiterun people killed by vampires too, Adrianne, Jon Battle-Born, Anoriath, the drunk guy, and Ufberth. At least Heimskr's alive.

    • I don't have dawnguard installed, but with "vanilla" skyrim i failed in pickpocketing her amulet and the guards didn't asked me.Only attacked me and even if I sheated my weapons they never stopped attacking me. So I ran to the thieves guild, lock the passage and entered. Everyone teleported in and the thieves guild started to attack the guards. At this moment, her niece keep sending thugs on my way.Damn it,I am so unlucky.

    • Vampires killed Belethor, Adrienne, Edda, Drifa and Nils

That made 5 reasons for me to join the Dawnguard

    • i was in Winterhold trying to go to college. when i came back out there were a ton of dead gaurds and the towns people were all dead. there was only one vampire left and i used Calm on him then stabbed him in the back.

    • I have some mods that prevent that kind of thing from happening, likewise for dragon attacks, they're very handy and don't ruin the game immersion.

        Loading editor
    • I've heard so many bad storied with Dawnguard, that when I start it, I'm not going to step foot in Whiterun until after I finish the Dawnguard faction quests.  How do they get into walled cities like this?  Isn't there a gate for this type of situation?

        Loading editor
    • The main reason why I never get into cities during the night time. And even if some of the attacks do happen during the daytime (luckily that happens very rarely), I reload. Can´t stand the idea of ppl dying in my game. But hey, that´s why I´m the Dragonborn: I keep people safe.. even if it sometimes needs a bit of magic called "reload" :D

    • I never reload when someone in my game dies. Just seems kinda wrong to me.

        Loading editor
    • Kinda fun to kill peeps though, once I went werewolf for the first time in the companions and accidentally killed Belethor.

    • I once killed an old lady in whiterun (cant remember who) and never reloaded i think there is something wrong with me

    • Not to be insensitive, but you should be happy that Haelga's dead, but Balimund...I feel your pain

Did you watch Heimskr's Talos Baby thing? That is the ONLY reason I would see at least he is alive.... or sarcasm maybe?

    • I cried when I saw Balimund's son replace the blacksmith.

        Loading editor
    • Yah, same with markarth with me. I finished the smith's quest and then did the forsworn thing. I helped madanach and there were a crapload of deaths.. There was also a dragon attack in riverwood and it killed Gerdur, Alvor, Sven, and like four guards. Also lost a few over in Rorikstead and Ivarstead like that.

        Loading editor
    • They killed my Agmaer, Aerin, that argonian jewlry maker in riften, and maybe others... but Not Nazeem yet? WHY? PLEASE TAKE NAZEEM OFF MY HANDS!!!!!

        Loading editor
    • I walk into Riverwood, and then I have to take a piss. I walk away from the game, not pausing it, and I come back to find a dragon killing everyone. I kill the dragon, then check for bodies. There were 5 people dead, Sven, Faendal, Camilla, Alvor, and Sigrid. The little girl Dorthe didn't have a family anymore, so she goes to Orphanage Hell in Riften. I felt so bad for her I bought Hearthfire to adopt her. Four days after that, I purchase Dragonborn. The cultists come and attack me. In the attack, Sven's mother Hilde dies. A couple of weeks later, I get Dawnguard. I join the Dawnguard, and then a few in game days later, vampires attack me while I'm in Dawnstar, killing the dude who gives you Merune's Razor. SKYRIM IS CRUEL

    • It is indeed a tough place to live.  That's what makes the Dragonborn's job so hard!

There is a simple mod you can add to stave off Vampire and Dragon attacks, but I don't know one for the Cultists.

It's called Dawnguard No More Vampire Attacks, on the Nexus.  You wear a simple Amulet--one for the Vampires and one for the Dragons.  They can be worn together and you can still wear any other necklace or Amulet you like.  I only wear the Vampire one.  If I am fast traveling into a town which is vulnerable to Dragon attacks, such as Dawnstar, I put on the Dragon one.  I always save frequently also, so I can go back and save someone.

    • Console Commands people! You are the Dovahkiin! You can bring people back to life at will and its not too lore breaking....

If they died in the past, use commands to go to deadbodycleanup cell, resurrect them. target them with the Prid command once you're back in their town, and use the moveto.player command. If they were turned into ashes by stupid vampires (or Dovahkiins), you can spawn a new copy with commands, but that usually is glitched  (i.e. they stay indoors or won't trade with you).

What if you don't play on PC. Plenty of people play on console as well.

    • So I walk out of the Flagon's Cistern, and BAM! Double vampire attack! Balimund, Edda, and Arcadia died.

    • Haelga, Madesi, Nivenor, and Wujeeta also died (I'm up there)

    • Death in Skyrim is inevitavle. In my first Skyrim Profile, the ONLY reason i shall ever reload is if i get stuck and cannot get out. IF people die.. i mourn for losses then kill the bastards who did it. Currently, with level 52, Full daedric armour and weapons, all Daedric artifacts, Thane in EVERY Hold, all houses, main questline complete, companions questline complete, Main Theives Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests complete, Civil War Questline complete, Magic prowess, gold for days, and enough dragon souls to unlock everyshout, my main goal is to save the good and kill the evil.. even if the evil are innocent.. like that bastard in Whiterun that thinks he can get any girl.. treats them like prizes.. dead. *spits* He had it coming. But when i do buy all add-ons... There will be much more to do.. many dragons to slay.. and more evil to fight. I hate vampires... tamed warewolves i can stand.. wild ones die. I have shouted people using Unrelenting Force to save them from dragons.. and they hate me fro it.. being Dragonborn is usually a thankless job.. but ill be damned before I let the innocent die.. unless of corse.. they piss me off.. then they will die by a stealthy Dark Brotherhood Assasin... 3:)

    • To avoid this happening to you, first of all never fast travel from a city at night, otherwhise when returning there will be a huge amount of dead. I always wait if the time is after 7pm till 8am as this normally stops vampire attacks or just spawns them after you wait. Freaking vampire attacks piss me off so much!

        Loading editor
    • If they all died in one place, you can use the Ritual Stone to bring them all back to life,

For a few moments, enough to barter with...

    • I haven't downloaded Daenguard or Dragonborn, so I don't particularly fell your pain (yet). I rarely have dragon attacks, but when I do, I can kill it fast enough before it can do any damage. Most of Whiterun is dead though. I had nothing to do with it >.> <.<

        Loading editor
    • I have DCO and Deadly Dragons running simultaneously. If a dragon attacks a city, most of the named characters die before Run For Your Lives can get them indoors.

My goal for every battle is to kill all the dragons (there's usually three or four), and not lose a single civilian. I have never succeeded.

        Loading editor
    • I lost alvor, faendal, and one or two guards in a dragon attack. Because of that, I dont go to riverwood as often as I used to.

        Loading editor
    • I had I dragon spawn inside windhelm two times and only one guard died in the first attack

        Loading editor
    • I once traveled to Riften and a vampire attack killed that felmale begger, the argonian that sells jewelry, the jerky armor selling woman, balimund, and that woman that sells raw food.(don't really remember those names)

I reloaded and only Aerin died.

    • I have had almost no civilian deaths whatsoever in Skyrim, vampires or dragons. Mostly because they only attack me and not other civs. Shadr got killed on one playthrough, and a markarth guard got killed by an frost dragon in Soljund's Sinkhole.

        Loading editor
    • Shadr was murdered by vampires. And the drunk of Winterhold misteriously died, not even got to the Winterhold attack phase in CoW questline, and a vampire attacked and revived him. No one else died, though.

    • that happened to me to i just reloaded an old save from before

    • Alvor, Gerdur, Faedal, the dog Stump, and about half of the guards are dead due to vampire and dragon attacks. Im so sad because those people were a big help when I first started the game and now, they are gone :(

    • Happy days for the Db finally free of Helga, and Arein, but Balimund rocks the boat, too bad they didn't kill Bolli

    • I have played with one character on legendary, nothing but legendary, and people just don't die anymore unless they're me, I watched as the Jarl of Riften killed a dragon... no mods.

        Loading editor
    • Only two non quest related people are dead on my save, birna's husband and idolaf battle born. One time the dawnguard attacked riften and killed snilf, valdinor(I turned him into a vampire), brand shei and two riften guards. 3 reasons to kill them all

    • Whenever Vampires attack a major city, I just resurrect everyone who died using console commands. That's PC for you.
