  • I inniated a the Purity quest with Vilkas and fast traveled to the tomb of Ysgrammor. However as soon as we arrived the quest disappeared from my active quests despite not actually completing it. I still have the Glenmorial witch head.

Now I can't have anybody follow me, they keep saying "looks like you got someone already"... I can't iniate anymore more companion work quests.

Furthermore everytime I go into Jorvasker Farkas runs up to me and iniates a conversation. The only options I have are "asking for heavy armor training" and "follow me i need your help."

    What do!?

    • I have the exact same problem.  I have searched for answers everywhere, and none of the tips have worked for me.  Some of the suggestions included:

      1) talk to Vilkas, but don't accept his job, fast travel somewhere, fast travel back, and talk to Farkas and he will offer you a job.  Nope, didn't work.

      2) kill Vilkas.  Nope, didn't work.  Farkas didn't give me a job.

      3) do Aela and Vilkas' jobs and sooner or later Farkas will offer a job.  I've done 3 or four of the basic jobs for Vilkas and a few more for Aela, and still no offers from Farkas.

What a terrible bug.  Now I have to play the rest of the game with no companion.  Ugg, so annoying

    • Purity has information on how to correct this bug. I still don't know why it happens but it's very annoying.

@AWC 199.36.20.5: If you are on PC, you can use console commands to force the quest to be completed.

    • To desistindo desse jogo, não tem como joga com um bug desses, eh uma bosta pqp

        Loading editor
    • As SuperSajuuk said there is a possible solution on the quests bugs list, although it is a bit complicated. On the PC the quest can be force with commands, i did try it once and commands had to keep getting used every part of the quest (but i then reload and after waiting a while and few other jobs Farkas gave his Purity quest).

    • I actually got it so if vilkas is asking to do the cleanse refuse, do a quest for alea then go to farkas cleanse him go back to vilkas do a vilkas quest then cleanse him and that fixed it for me

        Loading editor
    • I'm in a bind. I cleansed Vilkas and it says talk to him but all I says is training in two handed weapons. Any ideas?

        Loading editor
    • "If the Dragonborn arrives at Ysgramor's Tomb before Vilkas, while the quest is already enabled, and cleanses Vilkas without him present, then the option to talk to Vilkas afterwards will not be there. The quest will instead count as finished, and Vilkas will cease to give any side quests. Upon returning to Jorrvaskr, Skjor is found to be alive and still refers to the Dragonborn as a "whelp." He also has no side quests available."

      Is this what happened?

    • Still not working use it maybe re-play again frm beginning capture by imperial?

        Loading editor
    • Or maybe use low quality can made bugs any mission, don't use low quality? Plus, don't HOAX of info to other's if not true sample?

        Loading editor
    • Low quality specs/graphics don't usually cause anymore bugs than not, besides maybe visual bugs like magic effects not disappearing. The same can be said about high graphics, besides that they might have the magic errors. Other wise, there aren't any quest-related bugs or anything that should occur because of the graphics.

    • I'm having an issue with this quest. I'm at the point where Vilkas just stays in Jorrvaskr and I can't get a side quest from him or anyone else and Skjor is alive. This has been bugging me for a week and a half

        Loading editor
    • Same issue, on PC, all DLC, no mods. Turning in rescue quest of Danica for companions to Villas, he then offers the Purity quest. All is fine until I leave Jorvaskr. He then turns around and goes back inside. Quest still in log, but when I go back inside, it disappears from log and he has regular radiant quests only. Quest worked fine on previous playthrough, even cleansed Farkas and myself immediately after with no issues. The 3 differences from previous game were that I had a different quest before unlocking Purity, I hadn't used any companion as a follower before unlocking Purity - this time I had Farkas with me - and I cleansed myself after cleansing Kodlak this game instead of later with Farkas and Vilkas in previous.

    • U can stop him talking to u by clearing ur bounty in Dawnstar(the pale)

        Loading editor
    • To fix the following problem u will just have to load an older save

        Loading editor
    • Same has thing happened to me, however nothing above has worked. What happend is I completed a quest for Vilkas, started Purity, and left Jorrvaskr. However once I left, Vilkas followed me then turned around and went back inside Jorrvaskr and the Purity quest was gone (not started nor completed). Vilkas also says that I already have a follower if I try and have him follow me even though I don't. If this has anything to do with it then, Farkas has never given me work after I cured Kodlak and still doesn't. Also, I'm not on PC so I can't use the de-bugger commands. As well as I can't activate the flame and still have all four heads, meaning I can't cure myself either. Also I really don't want to, and I am not going to reload a save from well over 3 weeks ago...

I have also tried all solutions in the Putity bug list that applied to my situation, and none have worked. Can someone please help me.

    • Adding on to what I said above, I tried to load a save and exact same thing happend however this time I still have the Purity quest and it wasn't removed. The heads also count as quest items before the Purity quest was started (some how I managed to remove them and put them in a chest in my house but once I take them again I can't remove them even without any Purity quests).

    • I found out a solution, it works.

      1) Save before you active the quest with Vilkas.

      2) Active the quest with him, if the bug occur, load game.

      3) Find Falkas instead, do jobs to him until the Purity quest available, accept it and complete it. (If Falkas dont any missions request dialouge this time, changes your instance ((exit or enter any building)) then go back to talk to him again, the missions dialouge should be available again.)

      4) After you complete the quest with Farkas, go back to Vilkas and active the quest again, this time it should go without any problem.

Note that you should keep at least 2 witch head in your inventory while performing these acts.

Dont put those head in any chests after you finish Koldak's purity, instead drop them onto ground then you can pick or drop them as many time as you want, if you put them into any chests, they will become quest item, i proved this after a few tried.

And you can try my solution above, see if it works to you or not.

    • Playing skyrim special edition on ps4 in 2018 bug still present..wow, anyway I was done the questline and i just wanted to cure my own lycanthropy but this bug broke all that and my ability to have a follower. All my saves were WAYYY back and vilkas is completely essential and unkillable (at least at that point) so that was a dead end too (although i did get a laugh from managing to get an immortal farkas and vilkas locked in an endless fight in jorrvaskr) HOWEVER at least in terms of fixing your ability to have followers i found a fix in dawnguard, as soon as it forces serana to be your follower that booted vilkas’ broken ass out of the slot so i can get followers again, and you can cure lycanthropy by becoming a vamp lord (and cure that if you want) I didnt try any other quests that might force followers on you but serana worked (just reinforcing her bestness as follower) so i imagine some of them would too. Now i just never go back to jorrvaskr cuz honestly im scared of what will happen..

    • I think I find the solution for this bug:

      1. Go to Ysgramor's tomb

      2. Go find the Flame of the Harbinger

      3. Move Vilkas to your location using console command. type "prid 0001A695" (without ") and type "moveto player"

      4. Once Vilkas has been teleported to your location, talk to him again and he will give you Purity quest once again

      5. After you have killed Vilkas's Wolf Spirit open your console command and type "setstage cr13 100" to finish the quest

    • I was having trouble completing this as well. I went back to an earlier save which I hadn't completed all of the wolf totems with Aela. As soon as Vilkas offered me the quest I declined and went to Farkas. At that point Farkas started a short questline called The Dragon Seekers in which you go and kill two dragons at the marked point on the map. After that he (Farkas) offered me the Purity quest, of which I was able to complete. After that I went back to Vilkas and started the quest and was able to complete it as it should be done. To be clear the bug I had was the one where the Purity quest would start and Vilkas would follow me outside and immediately turn around and go back in. and the quest would be completed. Hope this helps someone else and wasn't just a fluke for me! Happy adventuring!

You make it sound like this bug is only in the PC version instead of the console versions.

i guess being specific would've killed you seeing that what you said made no sense.

    • Assume these as facts: I dropped all my heads into a chest once and picked them back up (they obtained the quest item status) I got the Vilkas glitch, where he blocked my follower status (somehow fixed it, now I can have followers). Accessing previous save is impossible.

How do I get them to give me Purity? (want to heal lycanthropy for me and them both)

        Loading editor
    • Try waiting around for a while, or do a few Companions miscellaneous missions.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, I waited quite a while (went through yhe whole dark brotherhood questline) and this is what I get:

      1. Completing one of Aela's Totem quests does nothing;

      2. Went through all Farkas misc. quests several times (until he gives nothing, never gives Purity).

      3. Completing misc. quests and talking to Farkas inside Glenmoril Coven does nothing (until he gives no quests, no Purity).

      4. Tried going to Ysgramor tomb, was able for no apparent reason (completed Companions' main questline ages ago, didn't get Purity from either of them) to activate a head and beat my spirit wolf (after that Farkas gives misc. quests until he gives nothing, no Purity), days as werewolf clock stops counting, no message about beadt blood after sleeping.

      5. After curing (somehow) my lycanthropy, the heads keep their quest status (but only 3 left), Farkas gives misc. quests until he gives nothing even if I complete a previos quest in Jorrvaskr, Glenmoril coven or Ysgramor's tomb.

What should I do now? I still wanna cure Farkas and Vilkas, but Farkas eventually stops giving quests until I ask Aela or Vilkas to give some of theirs. And noone ever gives me Purity (completed around 20 misc. Companions' quests collectively).

    • I couldn't get either brother to activate the purity quest. I was able to go back to the tomb and cute myself. Then I was able to bring Farkas as a follower, but no luck activating with the head. Then I wondered why a second door to skyrim had opened so close to the first. Turns out if you follow the stairs rather than fast travelling you find a word wall. I activated the word wall and the Farkas activated the purity quest. Yeah! Checking bro now.

    • After curing Farkas, Vilkas still tried to give random radiant quest. I cancelled before the quest actvated then made him my follower. Took him to the tomb. Reeased him as a follower. Asked for work again and the purity quest activated. All i had to do was turn around and toss in the head! Finally!

        Loading editor
    • Side note. I gave each brother a head as a follower. Took the head back in the tomb before releasing and that could have reactivated head...

    • Once you begin the purity quest start a fight with whoever, then lure them outside of whiterun.  :)
