  • Anyone else have this happen? I'm level 5, just started as a Bosmer (Wood Elf) and right after I finished the first trip to High Hrothgar, I fast travel to Whiterun to sell some stuff I gathered on the climb up there. Of course, I have Dragonborn installed, so the cultists attack right away. Afterwards however, at night yet, Belethor walks up and says "Here's a token of my affection... it's not like we're engaged or anything" or something along those lines and he gives me 9 gold. I can't find anything else about this, and it's the first time this has happened to me, ever. Anyone have any idea why? Does he have a thing for Bosmer? I only played as a Altmer before, out of all the elven races, but he's never done it to my Khajiit, my Breton, my Argonian, my Imperial, my Altmer, or my Nord.

Just curious. It's... random. And seems out of character for him.

    • Some people just randomly give gifts to the Dragonborn if they like them enough. Usually it isn't much, but Belethor wouldn't be an exception.

    • Never had it happen though, and I've never even done anything for him. It's just random. Maybe killing the cultists was enough to gain his favor?

    • Just happened to me but I'm playing as a nord male for the 1st time. I've played as a female for Khajiit, Bosmer, Dunmer and Nords but this is the fist time it's happened to me. I was given a steel sword but I haven't completed any main quests nor have I killed the cultists. I haven't even gone to Hrothgar yet so that's not it. Not sure what it's about, but I like it.

    • Ah, so it's not just Adrianne who can suddenly give presents. But the race choice is quite random - Belethor never gave something to my breton, Adrianne suddenly gave mead to my Dunmer, and no one gave anything to my Khajiit who now has Speech 100. Vanilla game, btw.

Some like who? You mean perhaps only if you have DLC's installed?

Some NPC's will give gifts to the Dragonborn if they like them enough, however it is sort of rare, you don't have to have the DLC's. Before I installed the DLC's I received a gift from the Jarl of Falkreath, he came to find me apparently and gave me 500 gold, said "a token of my.. gratitude" and I also received a gift from Haran, was a necklace and she said her usual "Just the woman I like to see" phrase.

Beggars always like me. :) Especially Brenuin, he always gives me random stuff whether I gave him the Argonian Ale or not. Try being more generous with your septims.

    • I'm still not that convinced that this is SO COMMON on the original game as it was released

    • I created a female Bosmer (who at the time was level 12 or so) and did the "Laid to Rest" quest in Morthal. I left town, and when I cane back, Legate Taurinus Duilis just said "Here, this is for you," and gave me four septims. I've also gotten a sword from Lydia immediately after meeting her and talking to her (that was with an older character.) Is there an actual cause for these gifts?

    • It happens when you do good things or do things for the characters, people. Braith even gave me something after I dealt with the quest with Lars and I was not in her favor.

    • It just happened to my level 12 khajiit. The weird thing is, I hadn't even met the NPC before this moment. I just met Mallus Maccius for the Thieves Guild questline, this is my first time seeing him with this character, and he gives me an iron battle axe saying it's a token of his affection BEFORE I've even started the conversation...

I know all too well how that feels.

    • This just happened to me. Playing as a female Dunmer, I don't remember ever talking to Belethor with this character. I walk past him and he says "Here, a token of my affection. Doesn't mean we're engaged or anything" and he just hands me an apple pie. What?

I also just got married, maybe it was a late wedding present...
