Personally I think that the secret of arcana one should last 2-4 real time hours, same for the secret of strength, but the secret of protection should last 2-6 real time hours, does anyone agree?

It was so under powered i just ignored it but real hours sound a bit over powered and it is a greater power though so can only be used ones a day (which is under one real time hour).
It is so NOT underpowered. This thing saved my life! I was surrounded by very high level draugr at low health with low magicka due to being careless. I activated this thing and casted fire storm 3 times! That's an area of effect for 300 damage!
You can also cast spells that you normally don't have enough mana for. For example, I got the spell Flame Thrall recently. Cost 743 mana. I have 330 Max mana. Activate Secret of Arcana and now you can cast it.
The book in underpowered. The real reward for the quest are the boots. It's the only item in the game which has foritify enchanting, and on top of that it lets you walk on water. It's one of the best items in the entire game.
I have that spell 2 ( which I found in another black book) so I should find filiment a filigree and get that power plus when you are going out hunting, you could use detect life to find creatures
Just dropping by to say that secret of Arcana makes grinding magic skills a hell of a lot easier.
There's an exploit wher you can combine SoA with Telekinesis, grab an object and fast travel to a far-away location, this will instantly level your Alteration to 100. This is because your game simulates what you happen during the journey, and since SoA still affect consentration spells even when it wears off, the game acts as though you cast Telekinesis duing the entire journey.
