In chat, Jarjar, Atve and CCC, and I have been discussing the topic of new warning templates that can be used on a case-by-case basis in order to tell the user that is being warned exactly what they did wrong, while saving time on writing up an entire message. The structure we have agreed on is thus:
{{Warning|Please stop removing categories from articles, if you continue, a temporary ban may be given out.}}
This would be similar to the {{Sweetroll}} template, in that the general parts of the message are already written out, but there is a space for a personalised message. Here is the Sweetroll template in use:
Have a sweetroll! | ||
UAM has awarded you a Sweetroll! | ||
for making templates about warnings and generally being a useful asset community. |
Another thing discussed is different templates for different scenarios, the main ones we have come up with are are as follows.
- {{Vandalism}}, for issues involving the mainspace, this can include blanking, posting profanities, removal of sections, and generally damaging the overall quality of the article in a malicious manner.
- {{Trolling}}, for issues on any community space, including forums, chat, talk-pages, and blogs. The issues can be insulting users, or otherwise causing distress for other users,
and finally,
- {{Warning}}, though we already have a template under this name, we wish to change it to be less hostile to the user being warned, and be used as a general message for warnings, in case it doesn't fall under any of the above sections.
Note
If the user doesn't have a bad intent, and are merely making mistakes, no template should be used and they should instead be sent a short personal message outlining what they must change.
