I hate the Thieves Guild, the Black Briar's and Riften's corruption. There should be a questline to stop it. Even my thief character doesn't want to be involved in the extortion in the first quest of the thieves guild. In the next Elder Scrolls there should be a hold-guard questline to stop evil guilds. You can kill the Dark Brotherhood, why not the thieves guild?
Any suggestions of cool questlines fighting the thieves guild?
Stealing Frost should be one way to start it. That or Shadr's quest help thing. Something like those in the next game, help somebody deal with their corrupt people problems or help a rival gang that's slightly more friendly (e.g. less extortion).
I think it's fine to steal things, as long as it's from a rich asshole that probably doesn't deserve it anyway. I liked the thieves guild in Oblivion more than Skyrim, they were Robin-Hoody and noble, and not local thugs that bullied the populace, serving the wealthy.
Yeah, the Skyrim thieves are daedra worshipping (Not really a good daedra, either) and extort money from people. Saphirre's effing up Shadr's shiz and Brynjolf's putting Brand-Shei in jail pisses me off. I steal from guards of the opposite civil war faction and people who deserve it, like Nazeem.

Regarless of morality theres no real reason why the Dragonborn should owe any allegiance to these cut throats and vermin, apart from TG fences to offload your loot, and even then theres a perk that let you sell any stolen item to any merchant so even thats not necessary. There is afterall, as the saying goes, no honour amongst thieves.
Personally I see the entire Thieves Guild as someone's baby. One that they worked really really hard on and couldn't deal with the idea that some players might want to kill off all the charaters they had worked so hard on. I really hate in these games how some NPC's are just immortal, no matter what I do they won't die. I'm sorry but if I decide to walk into Riften as a vampire lord and make it a ghost town I should be able to do exactly that. Not be forced to deal with Maven and her family. Sure I can just avoid Riften, but that just kills the immersion for me. That and invisble walls, but thats a different conversation. Frankly, once the main quest is complete and Alduin is dead, I don't think anyone should be labeled as essential. Because they aren't, world is saved, everything is good, if I want to screw myself out of a few word walls thats my business. And yes I know about the mods but mods are pretty much fan fiction, I'd prefer it if Bethesda themselves recognized this issue and let us do what we wanted rather than being forced to either ignore or work with. Hopefully, Bethesda will have learned from Skyrim and we will be able to do whatever we want in Fallout 4. (one more month people oh thank the gods.)
I don't hate the people, I hate making Talen Jei and Bersi hate me and I hate the fact that I have to join a cult to continue in the story. Also, there's no way to help stop the corruption in Riften and the thieves guild is a big part of that corruption.
I think the reason why they didn't include an option to Destroy the Thieves Guild is because they clearly put a lot of time and effort into developing the storyline and side quests, as opposed to the Dark Brotherhood. With the DB, is always kill this and kill that.
It gives you a chance to create a hero character who isn't a goody two shoes. In Oblivion all the guilds are good besides the Dark Brotherhood.
But in Skyrim you have the option of being a thug and not be a total goody goody. I joined the companions, college of winter hold, destroyed the Dark Brotherhood, and I joined the thieves guild so I'm not a typhical boring all good hero. Balancing is important after all.
Not that I hate the thieves guild. Or even particularly hate Maven. I simply don't like the "authority" she's trying to exort over the DB. DB made Alduin explode (and then implode). Some lowlife shouldn't be untouchable. Especially after DB is Listener and Thieves Guild master. I am the Listener. I will murder anybody I want. Where I want. When I want. Maven included.
