They are all differing cultural interpretations of the same idea, but their was never really any true interpretation to the said idea to begin with, therefore each interpretation can be viewed as equally separate and real entities.
In other words, each of the stated gods are a specific culture's take on what is a vaguely defined Time/Dragon God.
Aka is the oversoul, he is pretty much all the other aspects combined. I like the window analogy myself. Think of Aka as a window, that window gets shattered and all the shards that made up that window are: Akatosh, Alduin, Auri-El etc. who are each now their own independant free thinking entities. Though I was always a bit confused about Akatosh and Auri-El, since all the gods are bound to nirn and thus bound to mortal belief, what mortals believe can change then.
Akatosh is esentially a creation of the Alessian doctrines and didn't seem to exist prior, he was created to merge aspects of the human and elven time gods to make a single pantheon appeal to all of nirn, So I think this may have caused some of the shards to merge into creating Akatosh though im not sure.
I love the glass analogy.
I could see my Dragonbprn character having visions of fire and glass shattering, and tiniest, infinitesimal shard of glass etering the bloodstream of those of dragon blood. Also... Game of Thrones / Dragon Glass. :D
I like to think they are also stages in life auriel being the beginning akatosh the present and alduin the end (world eater)
I think Akatosh and Auri-El were originially, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the Altmer ended up seperating the two. Alduin is, as others say, the first born of Akatosh, not the same. Lastly, Alkosh is probably Akatosh, just with the Khajiit name, as most of the Khajiit gods are regular gods, just with slightly different names (for example, the Khajiit call Mephala Mefala). Aka is just the Aldmeris and Ehlonfex word for dragon.

It wasn't the mer that tried to separate Auriel and Akatosh; it was man (and maybe racist Imga and other elf-haters). The Marukhati Selectives of the First Empire. Supposedly the Alessian Order's attempts to separate the time gods has created a buttload of issues, by which I mean they have driven Aka "completely insane."
This one screw-up is considered by many to be worse than all the other screw-ups in T.E.S. combined.
Most people seem very biased towards the "humans" in T.E.S., but just because they're like us doesn't make them any less cruel or more arrogant than any other race; plus it's not like mankind hasn't been the dominant power of every era since the Merethic, or that they share the keys to power or approve of self-determination. The Alessian Order was arguably more racist than the Fourth Era Thalmor, and they succeeded in their genocides and messed up the universe to top it off. I find it both sad and amusing how racist people can be towards races like the mer that don't even exist in our world; everyone hates the Thalmor, but they act just like the Thalmor. :/
Alright, rant over. xP
