    Hello, all.

So, the purpose of this thread is to rally support for the revival of the  MOTM award, or the Member of the Month for any noobs who aren't familiar with it.

Well, I've noticed that for some reason (aka no reason), MOTM gets discontinued every five seconds. Well, here's my two cents: What's the point of even having it. You make a big deal out of it in 2015, a lot of awesome users are awarded it for their work, and then all of a sudden it's randomly discontinued. Well, this has got to stop one way or another.

I value the MOTM because mainspace editors who aren't patrollers or admins get recognition for projects that they've done. Then they're remembered forever, even if they never quite made it to patroller. They  can feel like they're appreciated, and that all that hard work they did wasn't just for nothing.

When I edited during the Reign of Oppression, they had discontinued the MOTM badge by late 2013. Even though I was a godawful editor, none of the people who were actually awesome got the award between then and early 2015. I must say that it wasn't fair to them. Well, now that the Exodus exposed that they were just a bunch of whiny muppets, why do continue with random policies like that? They probably had a nervous breakdown and stopped it because they had no time to manage MOTM, which is understandable.

But now, we aren't pressured for time, and we don't have 8000 pages to create for the newest game. We can actually start up MOTM again.

    So who's with me?

I agree with almost everything youve written. People still contriubte alot to the wiki and should be recognised for all there efforts and nothing isnspires people more to contribute like the possibility of becoming a MOTM.

    • MOTM isn't gone? What is there to bring back?

Dude like... Keep up xD. We had a discussion on this recently: Thread:897694 It's not like we arbitrarily decided to discontinue it. Its discontinuation is a simply a side effect of there being no suitable candidates. And there are still no suitable candidates.

P.S You can therefore nominate someone if you wish. Likelihood is it just won't pass (as happened for December).

there are still plenty of suitable candidates still contributing.

No there aren't. And if you think there are, nominate them.

Edit: Bloody hell I sound like a twat.

    • Oooh, crap. I always misunderstood. I always thought that you couldn't nominate because it was "retired." You should probably change it to "No suitable candidates."

Um yeh actually I need to check the Moot logs, it might actually be retired. I thought it was still open. I'll check. (My vote remains either way).

Update: Weell I can't find anything in the Moot logs. So I assume nominations are still open. However, assuming they are "closed" my vote remains.

    • I know I've said this several times before. We've halted the MOTM for an indefinite period of time, and we aren't re-opening it anytime soon. I can think of maybe five editors right now who are legitimate candidates. We have a lot of editors, many of whom are very helpful, but most of them are not really extraordinary editors, which is what this award stresses. Someone who adds 3000 images or creates 5000 pages in two months, that kind of thing has gotten users the award in the past. Our userbase isn't going to get any larger until TES:VI is announced, at which point I'd be open to restarting the MOTM, but until then we just don't have the users for it to work properly.

EDIT: If you want to award users for similar things in the meantime, you can use the {{Fishy stick}} and {{Sweetroll}} templates.

I don't oppose member of the month, but I oppose this thread. When I was in the moot, I'm pretty sure that we never put down the award. During the thread Bron mentioned, we agreed that we don't want to rush to get the award moving because that would cause the bar most likely to be lowered. I don't hate the award, but this thread is a bit rash. I can see several users who have potential, but as Atv mentioned they are not exactly ready yet. It was agreed in the moot (I'm pretty sure) that the award would be put aside temporarily until our next surge. We have every intent on bringing it back, just not at this current moment.

Until we get more editors or get some existing users to become much more active, I don't see this as a possibility. I would very much like to have this award resumed, but at the time I don't see this as a possibility.

I would like to bring everyone's attention to this post by Pete Hines. It seems he is teasing that The Elder Scrolls: Legends will be released at PAX East (April 22 - 24).

    • Well mates,

It looks like I've had yet another brainfart. Welcome to Ned-dom, folks.

It's no big deal, I guess I just misunderstood all the schematics behind when we award it. It still makes absolutely no sense to me, but it's not like I'm exactly surprised. Bron did some research on it and found nothing conclusive as to its literal discontinuation. I think somebody should add that MOTM is actually retired indefinitely on the page, if it hasn't been done already.

Oh well, guess we'll have to wait till ESVI.

Since I proposed it, I think the thread is closed.
