Easiest way to become thane?

Falkreath.

• Go to Riften and get a bottle of Black-Briar Mead

• Go to Falkreath, give Jarl Mead

• Jarl will give you a mission to kill bandits. Kill bandits

• Jarl will say you need to "help three of his citizens"
  • Go to Thadgeir (he's chopping wood across the road from the General Goods store), he will ask you deliver ashes to the Priest of Arkay that is in the same town
  • Pick veges and give to Mathies
  • Go to Half-Moon Mill (north of Falkreath on the edge of the lake), chop wood and give wood to Hert

Return to Jarl and he will make you Thane. Easiest Thanedom hands down.

Oh, and make sure that you have a Woodcutter's Axe to chop the wood for Hert.

Yeah, I already got that from that mill in riverwood
